Around five thousand years ago, King Ugrasen had ruled the small Indian village of Mathura. He was loved ·
by all of his people, and raised two very fine children, Kans and Devki. As his children grew older, they both went their own ways. Kans jailed his father, and was the new King of Mathura. He still loved his sister, Devki, with a lot of heart, and got her married to an army officer, called Vasudev.

It's my most favourite Prayer to Lord Krishna whose beauty and smartness are very popular worldwide.Lord Krishna had preached Warrior Prince Arjuna amidst battle field of Kurkshetra who had prophesised himself to be God.The Bhagavad-gita is... the famous discourse that took place between Lord Krishna and the warrior Arjuna, just before the onset of the great Bharata War (c. 3138 BC).The Bhagavad-gita originally appears as an episode in the Sixth Book of the Mahabharata (Bhismaparvan, 23-40). In this of 700 verses, Lord Krishna shows how each Vedic dharma directs a person toward the ultimate, the "most confidential of a...ll knowledge." He discusses the yogas of work, meditation, and knowledge. Krishna shows how it leads to the "most secrets of all secrets, " pure loving devotional service to God. "Always think of Me and become My devotee. Worship Me and offer you, homage unto Me." This, Krishna says is "the most confidential part of knowledge.

A homage to the first Chief Minister of Bombay State Balasaheb Gangadhar Kher as flashed on the f.b. on Feb.01.2011

Bishwa Nath Singh

I remember that I had asked few days earlier a social gathering to name as who was the first and last Prime Minister of Bombay Province and the first Chief Minister of Bombay State (now bifurcated into Maharsashtra and Gujarat State), to my utter surprise, none had replied correctly and since then, I had thought of flashing it .Let me answer this question as he was none else than Balasaheb Gangadhar Kher popularly called B.G.Kher. Here, one can have glimpse of his life in brief.

Bishwa Nath Singh :
Balasaheb Gangadhar Kher who was also popularly called as B. G. Kher was born on August 24, 1888 at Ratnagiri in a middle class family who had a privilege to be the first chief minister (then called Prime Mnister) of Bombay State which con...sisted of present day Maharastra and Gujrat States of India. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India in 1954.He was a lawyer, solicitor and social worker by choice and politician by necessity, He was often described as “Sajjan”, good and gentle who was a well-known scholar, an accomplished orator, and a man with no pretensions. During his childhood, he had spent some years of his boyhood at Kundgol in the then Jamkhandi State. Later, he migrated at the instance of Gopal Krishna Gokhale to Pune to study at the New English School. Later he obtained the degree of B.A. in 1908 from the Wilson College, with high distinction and received the Bhau Daji Lad prize for standing first in Sanskrit. His political career began in 1922 and he was chosen as Secretary of the Bombay branch of the Swaraj Party. During the Civil disobedience movement he was arrested and sentenced to eight months' rigorous imprisonment and fine in 1930. He was again arrested in 1932 and sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment and fine. He became the first Prime Minister of Bombay Province in 1937 at the instance of Mahatma Gandhi and continued in office till October, 1939. He was arrested and imprisoned in 1940. During the Quit India struggle, he was again arrested and imprisoned in August, 1942. He was released from prison on July 14, 1944. He again became Prime Minister of Bombay province on March 30, 1946 and continued in office till January 25, 1950.Again,he served as the Chief Minister of Bombay State from January 26,1950 to April 21, 1952 His Ministry had earned the reputation of being the most progressive State Ministry in India. As Chief Minister, he was an ex-office member of the Constituent Assembly, and he had layed a very notable part in the drafting of the Constitution. Mass education, land reforms, and women’s equity/empowerment were the three pronged strategies on which the constitution makers of India had visualized the socio-economic transformation of a free India. This was evident from the initial steps that the government took, such as the Zamindari Abolition Act, community development program, and the Hindu Code Bill .B.G.Kher had felt that the future and hope of mankind lie in educational advancement and a Welfare State, has to make suitable provision for the same. Advocates of State supported education in the past have usually rested their case predominantly on the two extra economic considerations of equality of opportunity and social cohesion. That is, the state being responsible for ensuring that the advantaged sections got the preferred weight age and discriminations in this field does not lead to a in the social fabric of the society. Why to condemn a rising star in our Indian Politics all the times without being inducted by the Court as flashed on the f.b. on Jan.31,2011.

Bishwa Nath Singh:

Why to condemn one very often who has been a rising star in our Indian Politics and has been doing much for betterment of all living in his Gujarat State as whole equally for all Hindus, Muslims, Christians and others without making any differentiation on the caste, religion and race basis? Is it not due to dirty game of politics to lower down his prestige in eyes of others living far and wide! Certainly, it is simply because of the game of internal bickering and dirty party and politics played by his opponents and against that we must rise who claim themselves to be intellectuals, journalist, thinkers and social workers to straighten it in the right order. It is very well said that one can not die every day as he/she gets deterrent punishment once for an offense, it's not that he /she is punished every day that too when allegations are unfounded and baseless otherwise be would have been rejected by electorates who are the biggest judge and should not been asked to continue as the Chief Minister of a such a powerful state where literacy is much higher than other states and per capita income is more than most of the states of our country.

How may of us remember one who was a renowned Indian mathematician and physicist noted for his collaboration with Albert Einstein in developing a theory regarding the gas like qualities of electromagnetic radiation who was best known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s, providing the foundation for Bose–Einstein stati...stics and the theory of the Bose–Einstein condensate. One was F.R.S. and honored as the namesake of the boson! The grateful Indian Nation on whom had conferred India's second highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan in 1954. Although more than one Nobel Prize was awarded for research related to the concepts of the boson, Bose–Einstein statistics and Bose–Einstein condensate—the latest being the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physics, which was given for advancing the theory of Bose–Einstein condensates although, he was not awarded the Noble Prize. He was none else than Prof. Satyendra Nath Bose.Let us a have glimpse on his life in brief and pay our homage to him!

Bishwa Nath Singh:
Prof. Satyendra Nath Bose popularly called S.N.Bose was born in Kolkata (Calcutta) of India on January 1,1894 as the eldest of seven children His father, Surendranath Bose, worked in the Engineering Department of the East Indian Railway ...Company. As a young boy, he had attended Hindu School in Calcutta, and later attended Presidency College, also in Calcutta, earning the highest marks at each institution. He came in contact with teachers such as Jagadish Chandra Bose and Prafulla Chandra Roy who provided inspiration to aim high in life. He was a brilliant academic record as a student From 1916 to 1921 he was a Lecturer in the Physics Department of the University of Calcutta. In 1921, he joined the department of Physics of the then recently founded Dhaka University (now in Bangladesh and called University of Dhaka) and continued till 1945.His works covered a variety of areas like statistical mechanics, the electromagnetic properties of ionosphere, theories of x-ray crystallography and unified field theory, which was a dream topic for Einstein’s research and this went on through his final phase of life.He was an internationally renowned Indian physicist. His best-known work was on quantum mechanics which he put forward in the early 1920s. This paved the way for the formulation of what is known as Bose-Einstein Statistics and the theory of Bose-Einstein Condensate. The particle boson is named after him. Because of his contribution to Einstein’s theory of relativity, Professor Bose When Bose was working at the Dacca University, in 1924 then in India, his paper on ‘Planck’s Law and the Light Quantum Hypothesis’ was published in Europe, in an annotated German translation by Einstein. Einstein also wrote to his Indian colleague, congratulating him on his research. The concepts of the boson, Bose-Einstein statistics and Bose-Einstein condensate were closely related to the award of Nobel Prize more than once, Bose was never considered for the prestigious prize. Bose's ideas were afterwards well received in the world of physics, and he was granted leave from the University of Dhaka to travel to Europe in 1924. He spent a year in France and worked with Marie Curie, and met several other well-known Scientists. He then spent another year abroad, working with Einstein in Berlin. Upon his return to Dhaka, he was made a professor in 1926. He did not have a doctorate, and so ordinarily he would not be qualified for higher Post, but Einstein recommended him. His work ranged from X-ray crystallography to unified field theories. He also published an equation of state for real gases with Megh Nad Saha.Apart from physics he did some research in biochemistry and literature (Bengali, English). He made deep studies in chemistry, geology, zoology, anthropology, engineering and other sciences. Being an Indian of Bengali descent, he devoted a lot of time to promoting Bengali as a teaching langHe didn't have a doctorate, and the hig Poddar. There is an interesting anecdote that goes round the scientific circles as mentioned in some of his biographical notes. Once the great scientist, Niels Bohr, was delivering a lecture. At one stage the lecturer had some difficulty in explaining a point. He had been writing on the black board; he stopped and, turning to Bose, said. “Can Professor Bose help me?’ All the while Bose had been sitting with his eyes shut. The audience could not help smiling at Professor Bohr’s words. But to their great surprise, Bose opened his eyes, and in an instant he solved the lecturer’s problem. Then he sat down and once again closed his eyes! His best-known work was on quantum mechanics which he put forward in the early 1920s. This paved the way for the formulation of what is known as Bose-Einstein Statistics and the theory of Bose-Einstein Condensate. The particle boson is named after him. Because of his contribution to Einstein’s theory of relativity, Professor Bose was popularly known in Bengal, his homeland, as ‘Einstein Bose’. The concepts of the boson, Bose-Einstein statistics and Bose-Einstein condensate were closely related to the award of Nobel Prize more than once, Bose was never considered for the prestigious prize.. In 1944 Bose was elected General President of the Indian Science Congress. When the partition of India became imminent, he returned to Calcutta and taught at Calcutta University until 1956, when he retired and was made professor emeritus. In 1958 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society. The 2001 Nobel Prize was given for advancing the theory of Bose-Einstein condensates. He was very popularly known as an Indian mathematician and physicist noted for his collaboration with Albert Einstein in developing a theory regarding the gas like qualities of electromagnetic radiation. He is best known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s, providing the foundation for Bose–Einstein statistics and the theory of the Bose–Einstein condensate. Although more than one Nobel Prize was awarded for research related to the concepts of the boson, Bose–Einstein statistics and Bose–Einstein condensate—the latest being the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physics, which was given for advancing the theory of Bose–Einstein condensates—Bose himself was not awarded the Nobel Prize. Among his other talents, he was well-versed in several languages and could also play the esraj, a musical instrument similar to a violin with great devotion. He had passed away at the age of eighty in Calcutta of India on February 4, 1974 whose passing away was a great loss to Science as whole for whole of the world. Let us join to pay our respectful homage to him who had kept the banner of our National Flag at top in International Science Arena!

Our respectful homage to Mahatma Gandhi whose death anniversary is being celebrated as Martyrs' day as flashed on the f.b. on Jan.30,2011.

Bishwa Nath Singh:

Martyrs’ Day marks the death anniversary of the father of nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who was assassinated on Jan 30, 1948, by Nathuram Godse. Godse held Gandhi responsible for the partition of India thus he shot Gandhiji. For this evil deed Godse was hanged on November 15, 1949. this day not only Prime Minister and chiefs of ...the armed forces salute the martyrs at India Gate but also common men show their gratitude towards them by giving up their normal activities for some time and observing silence for two minutes. Sirens are blown at every government establishment around 11 am. At that time everyone, be it in industrial units or government offices even commoners stop their work and observe silence for two minutes as a remembrance of the martyred souls. The siren again blows after two minutes, i.e. around 11.02 am allowing resuming work. Mahatma Gandhi was the greatest human being so far appeared on this earth. Bapu is a symbol of virtues and greatness. This man lived the life of a saint. His status of Father of the Nation cannot be challenged as the political party led by him enjoyed full monopoly after independence. He believed in antiviolent ideologies. Gandhi and his followers played a significant role in ousting British Colonial Rule.

Bishwa Nath Singh :
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, India. He became one of the most respected spiritual and political leaders of the Twentieth Cnetury. Gandhi helped free the Indian people from British rule through nonviol...ent resistance, and is honored by his people as the father of the Indian Nation. The Indian people called Gandhi Mahatma, meaning Great Soul. At the age of thirteen, Gandhi joined Kasturba who was one year younger to him, He was known for his passion and kindness towards all. He was a very strict guardian to his sons. As a result he was quite demanding. Gandhi studied law in London and returned to India in 1891 to practice. In 1893 he accepted a one year contract to do legal work in South Africa. At the time South Africa was controlled by the British. When he attempted to claim his rights as a British subject he was abused, and soon saw that all Indians suffered similar treatment. Gandhi stayed in South Africa for twenty one years working to secure rights for Indian people. He developed a method of direct social action based upon the principles courage, nonviolence and truth called Satyagraha. He believed that the way people behave is more important than what they achieve. Satyagraha promoted nonviolence and civil disobedience as the most appropriate methods for obtaining political and social goals.Gandhi returned to India in 1915.Within fifteen years, he became leader and had lead the campaign for Indian independence from Britain. Gandhi was arrested many times by the British for his activities in South Africa and India. He believed it was honorable to go to jail for a just cause. Altogether he spent seven years in prison for his political activities. More than once Gandhi used fasting to impress upon others the need to be nonviolent. India was granted independence in 1947, and partitioned into India and Pakistan. Rioting between Hindus and Muslims followed. Gandhi had been an advocate for a united India where Hindus and Muslims lived together in peace. On January 13, 1948, at the age of 78, he began a fast with the purpose of stopping the bloodshed. After five days the opposing leaders pledged to stop the fighting and Gandhi broke his fast. Twelve days later he was assassinated by a Hindu fanatic who opposed his program of tolerance for all creeds and religion. He was assassinated on January 30,1948 at New Delhi while going for prayer meeting in the evening in the premises of Birla House where he was staying and just to commemorate his supreme sacrifice for this country, the grateful country celebrate the 30th of January as Martyr’s Day. Let us pay our respectful homage to him and seek his bliss for well-being of all living –being of this universe!

A homage to V.K.Krishna Menon, former Union Defence Minister of India as flashed on the f.b. on Jan.30,2011

Bishwa Nath Singh:

Are we in remembrance of that great personality who started his career first after India got independence as diplomat later turned politician and had delivered an unprecedented eight hour speech defending India’s stand on Kashmir on January 23,1957 in United Nation Security Council ? To date, his speech is the longest ever delivered and had served Union Govt. of India as Union Defense Minister during the period from 1957 to 1962. He was non else than V.K .Krishna Menon. Let us remember and pay our homage to him!

Vengalil Krishnan Krishna Men who was popularly known as V.K.Krishna Menon was born on May 3, 1896 at Panniyankara in Kozhikkode, Kerala, in the Vengalil family of British Malabar. His mother Gowri Parvati Bayi. was the granddaughter of Ram...an who was Dewan of Travancore between 1815 and 1817 His father Komathu Krishna Kurup was the son of the Raja of Kadathanadu and a wealthy and influential lawyer. He was third son of his Parents.Menon had his early education in Thalassery and he took his B. A. degree from Madras Presidency College, Chennai. While studying in the Madras Law College, he became involved in Theosophy and was actively associated with Annie Besant and the Home Rule Movement. He was a leading member of the 'Brothers of Service', founded by Annie Besant who spotted his gifts and helped him travel to England in 1924. In London, Menon pursued further education at the London School of Economics and University College, London, and at the same time he became a passionate proponent of India's freedom He founded the India League in 1928 and made it the nerve centre of nationalist propaganda and activity in England. The Labour Party was influenced considerably by Krishna Menon who became on of its very effective spokesmen..In England, he worked as a journalist and secretary (1929–1947) of the India League, and became associated with fellow Indian nationalist leader Jawaharlal Nehru. In 1934 he was admitted to the English bar, and after joining the Labour Party he was elected borough councillor of St. Pancras, London. St. Pancras later conferred on him the Freedom of the Borough, the only other person so honoured being Bernard Shaw. In 1932 he inspired a fact-finding delegation headed by Labour MP Ellen Wilkinson to visit India. He had served as its Secretary and edited its report entitled 'Conditions In India'. During the thirties he founded with Allen Lane the Penguin and Pelican paper back books. He worked as an editor for Bodley Head, Penguin and Pelican Books, and the Twentieth Century Library. The close freindship between him and Nehru had made Nehru to realize the significance of the battle which Krishna Menon carried on in England and the role played by him in bringing about the peaceful transfer of power. After India got its independence, he became India's first High Commissioner in Britain and continued till 1952. During his tenure as the High commissioner to Britain, he was accused of being involved in a corruption scam involving the purchase of used military jeeps from Britain to supply to the Indian army during the war with Pakistan in 1948, but nothing was proved. From 1952 to 1953 and from 1954 to 1962 he had led the Indian delegation to the United Nations. In evolving the policy of non-alignment he played a very important role. He made diplomacy a dynamic instrument for world peace, socialism and national liberation. He took an active role in resolving the Korean and Suez crises. Krishna Menon became a member of the Rajya Sabha in 1953. On January 23, 1957 he had delivered an unprecedented eight hour speech defending India’s stand on Kashmir in the United Nation Security Council. To date, his speech is the longest ever delivered .He became a member of the Rajya Sabha in 1953.On February 3, 1956, he joined the Union Cabinet as Minister without Portfolio. In 1957 he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bombay and in April of that year, he became Union Defense Minister. He had preceded K.N.Katju. He worked tirelessly to modernize the defense forces and initiated a number if measures of far-reaching significance. He was behind the conception of Sainik Schools in India, under the aegis of Sainik School Society, which runs over twenty four schools across India. However, after India's defeat in the Sino-Indian War of 1962, he resigned from office for the country's lack of military preparedness. In 1967 he lost his parliamentary seat but was re-elected in 1969 from Midnapore. Again he was elected to the Parliament from Trivandrum. He was one person who, while remaining under the wings of Nehru, could be considered as the person who probably defined the Leftist leanings of our polity and betrayed India's cause with his links to Soviets and the Chinese. During his UK days, he was involved in the "Jeep Scandal", which was the first attempt by an Indian politician (then a bureaucrat) to weaken the Indian Defense Forces for undue favor when the deal with a UK company was done to buy the Jeeps for the Indian Army. They were rejected by the Indian Army as they were sub standard. But they had to be used as they had been paid for. Due to the political and media pressure he resigned as High Commissioner of India in U.K but after few years,he was inducted by Nehru into the Union Cabinet headed by Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru as the Union Defense Minister of India. As soon as he became the Defense Minister, the case against the company which was the front, was dropped by the Government. He had remained Bachelor all throughout his life. He died on October 6, 1974 in New Delhi. He was the first Malayalee to have been honored with the country’s second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan for his distinguished service to the nation in 1954. He was a voracious reader, nationalist, politician, diplomat, administrator and statesman. Let us pay our respectful homage to him!

A respectful homage to His Holiness Satya Shri Sai Ram of Shirdi as flashed on the f.b. on Jan.29,2011

Bishwa Nath Singh:

In the beginning of eighteenth century a young bearded man with sparkling eyes took shelter in a mosque, in Shirdi Village in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra State in India, when he was about sixteen years old.. Nobody knew from where this stranger had come who hardly spoke a word and stayed there. Later on the curious village...rs started offering food to the man, but he never asked anything from them. Sometimes he shared his food with the animals. Soon the young fakir, as he was started to be addressed, started expressing his view points with few elderly villagers. His simple language of expression and his special power of solving the problems of poor needy and destitute soon made this less known fakir, known as Shri Sai Baba. As the days passed, devotees started streaming into Shirdi in ever growing numbers. The village was fast becoming a centre of pilgrimage. As gifts and presentations flowed in, the pomp and ceremony of Sai worship were evolving. Everyday Sai Baba would be a pauper having distributed all among the needy and the poor even though, his life of a Fakir remained calm, undisturbed, unaltered and therein is the saint’s Spiritual glory. Let us join to pay our respectful homage to him and pay our humble obeisance to his lotus feet to seek salvation for all living-being of this universe!

Hindu devotees considere...d him as an incarnation of Lord Shiva or Dattatreya. Many devotees believe that he was a Sadguru, an enlightened Sufi Pir or a Qutub who had become well-known figure in many parts of the world, but especially in India, where he is much revered. In the beginning of eighteenth century a young bearded man with sparkling eyes took shelter in a mosque, in Shirdi Village in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra State in India, when he was about sixteen years old. It is generally accepted that Sai Baba stayed in Shirdi for three years, disappeared for a year, and returned permanently around 1858, which suggests a birth year of 1838 who later on became popular as Shri Sai Baba. Nobody knew from where this stranger had come to Shirdi who hardly spoke a word and stayed there. Soon after that the curious villagers started offering food to the man, but he never asked anything from them. Sometimes he shared his food with the animals. Soon the young fakir, as he was started to be addressed, started expressing his view points with few elderly villagers. His simple language of expression and his special power of solving the problems of poor needy and destitute soon made this less known fakir, known as Shri Sai Baba. As the days passed, devotees started streaming into Shirdi in large numbers. The village was fast becoming a centre of pilgrimage. As gifts and presentations flowed in, the pomp and ceremony of Sai worship were evolving. Everyday Sai Baba would be a pauper having distributed all among the needy and the poor. But Sai Baba’s life of a Fakir remained calm, undisturbed, unaltered and therein is the saint’s Spiritual glory. People also later on realized that this “Baba” was no ordinary person but a person with extraordinary godly powers. Such powers are not known or present in normal human beings. Baba preached his principle of love and faith in humanity to all his disciples. He always felt anguished over the fact that all those who came to him were more for their own personal problems and not for attaining the ultimate goal of reaching God which he felt could be attained only by true servicing of humanity. He strongly believed in uniformity of religion and he never distinguished anyone on the basis of caste, creed or religion. He always made it a point not to return empty handed those who had come to him in their hour of need and grief. He performed miracles to alleviate the suffering of poor people. On one occasion he restored the eyes of a blind elderly and in another occasion he lighted a lantern with water when there was no oil to burn it. His life and relationship with the common man was his teaching. The immense Energy that was manifest in the body of Sai was moving and is still moving in a mysterious way, creating and recreating itself everywhere, beyond the comprehension of time and space.Yet, he lived with the common folk as a penniless fakir, wearing a torn kafni, sleeping over a mat while resting his head on a brick, begging for his food. He radiated a mysterious smile and a deep inward look, of a peace that passeth all understanding. He was always and ever aware of what transpired within the hearts and minds of everyone, whether they be his devotees or not. .He lived, acted and behaved as only a God descended on Earth can. He came to serve mankind, to free them from the clutches of fear. His most concise message for one and all alike was “Why fear when I am here”. To take refuge in Sai, is to enter into a journey to reach the Divine Oasis of Love and drink deep from the Fountain of Life, the source of all Spiritual Energy. Wherever the devotee is, Baba makes him recognize within himself his highest aspirations and goal and at one stroke, his conduct and the attitude to fellow beings is touched with the awareness of love, understanding, patience and faith. This is the promise that Sri Sai Baba holds out to all who come to Him. Sri Sai Baba was beyond the limitations of Time and Space and thus caste, creed, position dogmas and doctrines were fundamentally unimportant to him. Nobody really knew his parentage, where he came from or which religion he had practiced. He claimed no possessions nor accepted any disciples or gave any specific teaching. This anonymity lent a strange facet to his interaction with the people who came to him for guidance. To the Hindus he was an orthodox Brahmin, with a sacred fire, enjoining the worship of many gods and the devout study of various Hindu scriptures. He lived in a mosque but always referred to it as “Dwarkamay! Since Dwaraka was birth place of Lord Krishna. For muslims , he was a fakir living in a mosque observing the disciplines of Islam, uttering “Allah Malik” means God is the master guiding Muslim seekers along the lines c)f their own religion. To the Parsis he was the sacred fire worshipper. His life was a living manifestation of the Sermon of the Christ and of the Eight-fold path of the Lord Gautam Buddha. His attraction and appeal lie in this fact that he was a perfect model of the harmony of all religions, for which this world had been waiting. He had lived to awaken and lead mankind to the varieties of spiritual life. He set in motion a wave of spirituality, which is now spreading all over the globe. All his life’s activities constituted for bringing improvement in mankind. By first conferring temporal benefits, he drew unto himself countless souls caught up in darkness and opened their eyes to the true meaning of life. There was large number of instances in which Sai Baba had been physically appearing before his devotees, even decades after his passing out of the physical body. Sai Baba is constantly and simultaneously proving that he is alive in spirit and responds to our sincere prayers. He is the One Spirit of all existence that is God in all the forms of God, in all the saints, in all the men and in all the creatures. All those who sincerely take to a life of inner development, he lifts him to a higher level. Every one derives benefit according to the ripeness o f his soul and in accordance with his inner yearning. He had assured his devotees by pronouncing that he is at Shirdi and everywhere. Whatever devotees do, wherever they may be, ever bear this in mind, that he is always aware of everything. He did not belong to any single tradition but to all mankind on the path of goodness, love and understanding. He had passed away on October 15, 1918 leaving billion of his followers and devotees to condole his passing away. His body was laid in the Samadhi Mandir called “Booty”, which he had asked his disciple to built before his death. To protect cows must be in our developmental agenda and cow slaughter houses must be banned as flashed n the f.b. on Jan.29,2011.

Bishwa Nath Singh:

Well, it's good that awareness about importance of cow is being brought amongst masses but unless due care is not taken for their proper raising, nothing could be achieved. Cow slaughter houses must be banned by the Union Govt. and all State Govts. and for that strong political will is required for those political high-ups occupying h...igh positions in the Govt. It's unto electorates to persuade their elected M.P/M.L.A to compel the respective State Govt and Union Govt. to put a ban on cow slaughter by bringing a suitable ordinance or legislation or amendment ,so required It is irony of fate that though, we have been watching and listening every now and then that the cow is our holy mother who gives us milk that is just like pious given to Lord Buddha by a village girl Sujata at Bodhgaya while he was going under physical penance in search of getting enlighten .Simply, skelton was left on His body as He was so physically weak. Sujata, a village girl after having seen Him in that condition had brought pious from her house and offered Him and had cautioned that one should not pull string of a bow so strong that lest it may break and not leave too loose that it can’t hit and thus to me, she became the first Guru of Mahatma Buddha.. I am glad that our saga are bringing mass awareness for protection of Cows every now and then but with no tangible outcome. .Let us urge Union Govt. Of India and all State Govts. to put a blanket ban on cow slaughtering with immediate effect by bringing legislation or amendment, if so required in our Parliament and State Assemblies to get through the bill and all municipal corporations must be laddered with sufficient power too prosecute those who leave their cows stray in the township where all filths are eaten by them! It can be only possible when our political high ups occupying high and responsible chair in the Govt. have very strong political will Over sixty years have passed ever since, we got independence. Mahatma Gandhi was out and out for ban on cow slaughtering houses in our country but even though, it has not been enforced and that is perhaps the greatest tragedy of era that our historians can’t forgive us. We can also resolve not to use any milk other than fresh cow’s milk and boycott use of plastics.

I wonder as why Neta Ji Subash Chandra Bose and Karpoori Thakur were not honored with “Bharat Ratna” posthumously and Atal Bihari Vajpayee have not been honored so far with the National highest civilian award till date. The death of Net...a J has already been established Subhash Chandra Bose was one of the most dynamic leaders of India's struggle of independence who was popularly known as Netaji. Karpoori Thakur, former Chief Minister of Bihar who was popularly called Jan Nayak (Peoples’ leader) had died on February 18,1988 The contribution of Atal Bihari Vajpayee , the former Prime Minister of India can't be undermined who deserves the honor by all standards. He is well-known for being a poet, eminent journalist, and has published a book of poetry. He was the first bachelor Prime Minister of India. In 1957 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was first elected to the Lok Sabha, the then Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was so impressed with the prodigious oratorical skills of a callow young man named Atal Behari Vajpayee during his very first stint in Parliament, he predicted that some day this youngster would be India's Prime Minister. Again, once while introducing Vajpayee to a visiting British prime minister, Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had said that Vajpayee is a young leader of opposition who is always criticizing him But he sees in him a great future. He was accredited as one of the finest Prime Minister of our country. Let us raise our concern and appeal to all members of the selection committee and Union Government in particular to kindly consider them as the most favored choice for being recipients of” Bharat Ratna”
and ensure that they are awarded with the nation highest civilian honor soon without any further delay!

A respectful homage & flora Tribute to Bharat Ratna Maharshi Dr. Dhondo Keshav Karve as flashed on the f.b. on Jan.29,2011.

Bishwa Nath Singh

Let us remember the great social reformer of his time in India in the recent past, a very strict disciplinarian who use to pay money for his food even to his son and use to ask them to spend the money in social work! He was champion for the cause of women education in India. He always pleaded for widows’ marriage and was against c...aste system. Prior to his tenure, as per tradition Hindu social mores used to discourage education of girls, and parents routinely married off their daughters often before their puberty usually to young boys, but at times even to grown-up widowers. Social mores also disallowed remarriages of widows so that if a breadwinning man died, his widow's remaining life would turn bleak because, lacking education, she could not support herself. The widow had to spend her life serving the household of her late husband's relatives. The great figure was one of the pioneers in India in breaking with extraordinary fortitude and perseverance the above harsh social mores against womankind. He had promoted education of women and freedom for widows to remarry if they wished to do so. The Government of India had recognized his reform work by awarding him its highest civilian award, “Bhārat Ratna” in 1958, the year in which, incidentally, he completed his 100 years of life. He lived for one hundred four years. The appellation, Maharshi, which the Indian public often assigned to him means “a great sage”. Those who knew that great man affectionately called him as Annā Karve. In Marāthi-speaking community, to which he belonged, the appellation Annā is often used to address one's either father or an elder brother. He was non else than Bharat Ratna  who was a pioneer in promoting women's education and the right for widows to remarry. The Government of India awarded him its highest civilian award, Bhārat Ratna, in 1958, the year he had turned hundred years old.

Bishwa Nath Singh:
Maharshi Dr. Dhondo Keshav Karve who was popularly known as Annasaheb Karve was born on April 18, 1858 at Sheravali, Khed Tālukā of Ratnāgiri district in Mahārāshtra. He was a native of Murud in the Konkan region. He was born in a lower mi...ddle-class Chitpāvan Brahmin family. His father's name was Keshav Bāpunnā Karve. In his autobiography, he wrote of his struggle to appear in a certain public service examination, walking 110 miles in torrential rain and difficult terrain to the nearest city of Sātārā, and his shattering disappointment at not being allowed to appear for the examination because he looked too young. He had studied at Elphinstone College in Bombay (Mumbai) to receive a bachelor's degree in MathematicsMany things had happened in his life and given a different turn to his career. He had described his high school and, later, college education at The Wilson College Bombay (Mumbai) narrating various incidents that convinced him of the role of destiny and serendipity in shaping his life and career as a teacher and then Professor of Mathematics. He married at the age of fourteen but began his marital life at the age of twenty! He was married at the age of fourteen while his wife was then eight. Her family lived very near to Karve’s family.. His marital life began under the parental roof at Murud when he was twenty years old. Radhabhai died in 1891 during childbirth at age 27, leaving behind a young son named Raghunath Karve. Raghunath became a visionary social reformer. An incident highlighting the plight of a widow left an indelible impression on him and germinated in him the idea of widow remarriage. He married Godubai, who was widowed when she was only eight years old, was a sister of his friend Mr. Joshi, and now twenty three was studying at Pandita Ramabai’s Sharada Sadan as its first widow student. When he had described to his father that as he had already made up his mind to marry a widow. His father sat silent for a minute and then hinted that there was no need to go in search of such a bride. He had faced strong opposition from some orthodox quarters and systematically enunciates his life work – his organization of the Widow Marriage Association, Hindu Widows Home, Mahila Vidyalaya, Nishkama Karma Math, and other institutions, culminating in the birth of the first Indian Women’s University (SNDT University). In 1893, Karve founded Widhawā-Wiwāhottejak Mandali, which, besides encouraging marriages of widows, also helped the needy children of widows. In 1895, the institution was renamed as Widhawā-Wiwāha-Pratibandh-Niwārak Mandali (Society to Remove Obstacles to Marriages of Widows). He had established a Hindu Widows' Home Association in 1896 and started in Hingane, a village then in the outskirts of Pune in Maharashtra, Mahilāshram, a shelter and a school for women, including widows. He started Mahilā Vidyālaya in 1907; the following year, he started Nishkām Karma Math to train workers for the Widows Home and the Mahila Vidyalaya. The trials and tribulations he faced in his life-work of emancipation of education of women-widows in particular and how he overcame them by his persistent steadfast endeavors and indomitable spirit makes illuminating reading and underlines the fact that Dr. DK Karve was no arm-chair social reformer but a person devoted to achieve his dreams on the ground in reality. During 1891-1914, He had taught Mathematics at Fergusson College in Pune in Maharashtra State of India. The work of Pandita Ramabai inspired Karve to dedicate his life to the cause of female education, and the work of Pandit Vishnushāstri and Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyāsāgar inspired him to work for uplifting the status of widows. During 1917–1918, Karve established a Training College for Primary School Teachers and another school for girls, named Kanyā Shālā.In 1920, an industrialist and philanthropist from Mumbai, Sir Vithaldās Thāckersey, donated Karve's university 1.5 million Indian rupees --a substantial sum in those days-- and the university was then renamed as Shreemati Nāthibāi Dāmodar Thāckersey Indian Women’s University or SNDT Women's University. In March 1929, Karve left for a tour in England. He attended the Primary Teachers' Conference at Malvern, and spoke on Education of Women in India at a meeting of the East India Association at Caxton Hall, London. During 25 July - 4 August 1929, he attended an educational conference in Geneva, and spoke on The Indian Experiment in Higher Education for Women. During 8 - 21 August, he attended in Elsinor the international meeting of educationists under the auspices of the New Education Fellowship.During his subsequent tour of America, Karve lectured at various forums on women's education and social reforms in India. He also visited the Women's University in Tokyo. He returned to India in April 1930.In December 1930, Karve left for a fifteen-month tour in Africa to spread information about his work for women in India. He visited Mombasa, Kenya, Uganda, Tanganayika, Zanzibar, Portuguese East Africa, and South Africa .In 1931, the SNDT University established its first college in Mumbai, and moved its headquarters to Mumbai five years later. In 1936, Karve started the Maharashtra Village Primary Education Society with the goal of opening primary schools in villages which had no schools run by the District Local Boards. He also encouraged maintenance of reading habits of adults in villages. In 1944, he founded the Samatā Sangh (Association for the Promotion of Human Equality). In 1949, the Government of India recognized SNDT University as a statutory university. The SNDT University and other educational institutions for women started by Karve currently cover the spectrum ranging from pre-primary schools to colleges in humanities, sciences, engineering, architecture, and business management. Besides dedicating his life to the emancipation of women in India, Karve stood for the abolition of the caste system and the curse of untouchables in the Hindu society. His twenty year old widowed sister-in-law, Pārwtibāi Āthawale, was the first widow to join his school. After finishing her education, she joined him as the first lady superintendent of the then Hindu Widows' Home Association. After reading information about Japan Women's University in Tokyo, Japan, Karve felt inspired to establish in 1916 in Pune the first university for women in India, with just five students. The curriculum was tailored to the aptitudes of Maharshi, which the Indian public often assigned to Karve, means ”a great sage "Annā" is often used to address either one's father or an elder brother. He had written two autobiographical works: Ātmawrutta in Marathi in 1928 and Looking Back in English in 1936. He had ended the latter with the words that here ends the story of his life with hope that this simple story will serve some useful purpose. He was recipients of many awards notably Bannaras Hindu University (BHU) had awarded him D.Litt in 1942, Pune University D.Litt. in 1951,S.N.D.T. University D.Litt. in 1954, India’s second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan in 1955 by Govt. of India, University of Mumbai had awarded him LL.D. in 1957 and Our country’s highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ in 1958 by the President of India. He had passed away on November 9, 1962 at the age of one hundred four at Pune in Maharashtra State of India lraving behind millions to mour his death.Let us join to pay our respectful homage to him!

It is my thought for the day that I would like to share with everybody. Our devotion should be just like holy mother Sabri who had won the heart of Lord Ram, his spouse Sita and younger brother Lakshman when she offered Plums (Ber)to them after due selection to ensure that they are sweet and tasty during their exile in the forest

Our respectful obeisance to Lord Krishna as flashed by me on the f.b. on Jan.28,2011.

Bishwa Nath Singh:

Lord Krishna who is worshipped as the eighth incarnation (avatar) of Lord Vishnu. He took incarnation many centuries ago when India was facing internal strife. Through his devoted disciple Arjuna, He gave the world the Bhagavad- Gita. He is the architect of Dharma who lives forever in the hearts of the people of India and the whole w...orld."Krishna gave the immortal message of the Bhagavad Gita on the battle fields of Kuruksetra. The Bhagavad Gita is a teaching of the Lord Krishna was an embodiment of divine love and is often the principle focus of the Hindu bhakti or devotional traditionThe great hero who was born in a prison and had died in solitude in a forest.Lord Krishna had become the focus of a large number of devotional cults, which over the centuries have produced a wealth of religious poetry, music, painting and sculpture His Bal Lila (Childhood character and acts) are very famous. The child Krishna was adored for his mischievous pranks; he also performed many miracles and slew demons. As a youth, the cowherd Krishna became renown as a lover, the sound of his flute prompting gopis (wives and daughters of the cowherds) to leave their homes to dance ecstatically with him in the forests. His favorite among the daughters of the cowherders was the beautiful Radha. Krishna's youthful dalliances with the gopis are interpreted as symbolic of the loving interplay between God and the human soul. The rich variety of legends associated with Krishna's life led to an abundance of representation in painting and sculpture. The divine lover is shown playing the flute, surrounded by adoring gopis.

Bishwa Nath Singh :
The legends associated with Krishna's life led to an abundance of representation in painting and sculpture. Warrior Prince Arjuna had sat dejected, filled with pity, his sad eyes blurred by tears. Krishna gave him counsel. Why this cowar...dice in time of crisis, Arjuna? The coward is ignoble, shameful, foreign to the ways of heaven. Don't yield to impotence! It is unnatural in you! Banish this petty weakness from your heart. Rise to the fight, Arjuna! Arjuna had said to Lord Krishna as how can he fight against Bhishma and Drona with arrows when they deserve his worship? It is better in this world to beg for scraps of food than to eat meals smeared with the blood of elders I killed at the height of their power while their goals were still desires. The teachings of Lord Krishna to Arjuna is concised in a holy book ‘Shrimad Bhagwat Gita”. Lord Krishna came to know that a very large and poisonous serpent had made its home on the bank of Yamuna river. Because the serpent was so poisonous, not only all the fish died, but even the trees and grass surrounding the river was dying. When birds flew over the area, they immediately dropped dead and fell into the lake, due to the highly poisonous vapors emanating from the water.During that period, there were many frightful demons, who had all kinds of mystic powers. Lord Krishna had specifically appeared to get rid of them from the world of all these disturbing elements. The Lord came to this place with His cowherd boyfriends and decided to confront the king of the snakes. He climbed the large Kadamba tree and from there, jumped into the poisonous waters of the Yamuna Lord Krishna came to know that a very large and poisonous serpent had made its home in a lagoon on the Yamuna river. Because the serpent was so poisonous, not only all the fish died, but even the trees and grass surrounding the lake was dying. When birds flew over the area, they immediately dropped dead and fell into the lake, due to the highly poisonous vapors emanating from the water.During that period, there were many frightful demons, which had all kinds of mystic powers. Lord Krishna had specifically appeared to get of them from the world of who were disturbing elements. The Lord came to this place with His cowherd boyfriends and decided to confront the king of the snakes. He climbed the large Kadamba tree and from there, jumped into the poisonous waters of the YamunaLord Krishna then began splashing about and making very loud noises just to disturb the Kaliya serpent. Sure enough, the Kaliya snake came up to the surface to see who was attacking his home. This huge black serpent Kaliya (Kaliya means black) possessed over one hundred hoods, each bedecked with a precious gem. When he breathed, fire emanated from his nostrils. He suddenly seized Krishna in his powerful coils, and bound the Lord as tightly as possible. But unfortunately this serpent did not realize that within its coils was the Supreme Personality of Godhead, playing as a child and enjoying His earthly pastimes in the transcendental land of Vrindavana. Without warning, Krishna, the Supreme Mystic, started to expand His body, and Kaliya, who began to feel the incredible pressure, was forced to release the Lord from his deadly coils. Krishna then jumped on to the hoods of the great serpent and started to dance, stamping His foot down on the heads of the snake demon, Kaliya. This stamping of Krishna, felt to Kaliya serpent like Indra's thunderbolt striking a mountain. The Lord jumped from one hood to another, and Kaliya felt helpless and bewildered; in anger he spat fire from his many mouths but the Lord was so dexterous that His dancing movements caused the-snake to become dizzy. After so many kicks from the Lord, Kaliya started to first vomit blood, and then refuse, before becoming almost unconscious. At that time, the many wives of the Kaliya serpent appeared and begged the Lord with folded hands to spare their husband. Krishna decided to banish Kaliya to the great ocean never to return again. Thereafter, the giant snake along with his wives, departed forever, and the transcendental Lord re-joined His cowherd boyfriends on the bank of the Yamuna, to continue their wonderful pastimes in the land of Vrindavana Krishna, according to another popular myth, lifted the Govardhana hill up with his little finger and held it like an umbrella to protect the people of Vrindavana from the torrential rain caused by Lord Indra, who had been annoyed by Krishna. Then he lived in Nandagram till he was 10. Krishna then returned to Mathura, his birthplace, and killed his wicked maternal uncle King Kamsa along with all his cruel associates and liberated his parents from jail. He also reinstated Ugrasen as the King of Mathura. He completed his education and mastered the 64 sciences and arts in 64 days at Avantipura under his preceptor Sandipani. As gurudaksina or tuition fees, he restored Sandipani's dead son to him. He stayed in Mathura till he was 28. Krishna then came to the rescue of a clan of Yadava chiefs, who were ousted by the king Jarasandha of Magadha. He easily triumphed over the multi-million army of Jarasandha by building an impregnable capital Dwarka, "the many-gated" city in an island in the sea. The city located on the western point of Gujarat, is now submerged in the sea according to the epic Mahabharata. Krishna shifted, as the story goes, all his sleeping relatives and natives to Dwarka by the power of his yoga. In Dwarka, he married Rukmini, then Jambavati, and Satyabhama. He also saved his kingdom from Nakasura, the demon king of Pragjyotisapura, had abducted 16,000 princesses. Krishna freed them and married them since they had nowhere else to go. For many years, Krishna lived with the Pandava and Kaurava kings who ruled over Hastinapur. When a war was about to break oput between the Pandavas and Kauravas, Krishna was sent to mediate, but failed. War became inevitable, and Krishna offered his forces to the Kauravs and himself agreed to join the Panadavas as the charioteer of the master warrior Arjuna. This epic battle of Kurukshetra described in the Mahabharata, was fought in about 3000 BC. In the middle of the war, Krishna delivered his famous advice, which forms the crux of the Bhagavad Gita, in which he put forward the theory of 'Nishkam Karma' or action without attachment. After the great war, Krishna returned to Dwarka. In his final days on earth, he taught spiritual wisdom to Uddhava, his friend and disciple, and ascended to his abode after casting off his body, which was shot at by a hunter named Jara. He is believed to have lived for one hundred twenty five years. Whether he was a human being or a God-incarnate, there is no gainsaying the fact that he has been ruling the hearts of millions for over three millennia. In the words of Swami Harshananda, "If a person can affect such a profound impact on the Hindu race affecting its psyche and ethos and all aspects of its life for centuries, he is no less than God."Let us pay our respectful obeisance to His lotus feet and seek His bliss for well-being of all living-being of this universe!

कौन नहीं ललचाए
 By Baban Pandey.
