He had lived in a rented house in New Delhi's Defence Colony from which he was evicted since he could not pay its rent and moved to Ahmedabad where he lived with his daughter. What sets him apart from almost all the other freedom fighters who held high offices in independent India is his complete insulation from desire material. He had no source of income and would not accept funds from his children or from any well wisher. A friend, Sheel Bhadra Yajee, forced him to sign an application for the freedom fighter's pension of Rs five hundred per month and that was the source of his income for his living during later parts of his life. His life should be an eye-opener for all of us who are hankering for worldly pleasures and resolve to carry out his legacy in true sense in our life.

Bishwa Nath Singh :
The unbelievable fact about Gulzarilal Nanda is that he has been the only Prime Minister of India not having a house of his own that reflects his honest living as a Politician, one that can rarely be found and matched! The other interesting... fact of Gulzari Lal Nanda is that he lived for ninety nine years just like another Prime Minister Morarji Desai! In our Indian Constitution, there is no position of acting Prime Minister although there is a provision for an acting President but since he was number two in the Union Cabinet during Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shastri cabinet, there was no alternative for the President of India to invite him and sworn him as the Prime Minister during those mourning period. He was a freedom fighter, veteran Gandhian and interim Prime Minster. He was born on July 4, 1898 at Badhoki in Sialkot District of Punjab now in Pakistan.. into a Punjabi Hindu Khatri family He had received his education in Lahore, Amritsar, Agra, and Allahabad. He did his double Master of Arts from the Allahabad University. Where he had worked as a research scholar on labor problems at Allahabad University during 1920 to 1921 and later on , he joined as a Professor of Economics at National College in Bombay (Mumbai) in 1921 where he came in contact with Mahatma Gandhi in Mumbai, who instructed him to join the national movement and to organize the labour force in Ahmcdabad. In 1921, he had organised the Mazdoor Mahajan Sangh In 1922, he became secretary of the Ahmedabad Textile Labour Association where he worked until 1946. In Mumbai moved by the plight of industrial workers he took active part in trade union activities and was elected secretary of the national trade textile association in 1922. The civil disobedience movement launched by Gandhi in 1930 once again fired his imagination and he again became a political activism and was imprisoned in 1932. During the Quit India movement, he was jailed for two years. In 1946, following the installation of provincial governments in the states, he was appointed parliamentary secretary and also Chairman of the Bombay Housing Board and then called to Delhi as Deputy. Chairman of Nehru's Planing Commission. In Delhi he was inducted into the Union Cabinet. For the next 11 years, he looked after planning, labor, employment, irrigation and power. Known to be non-partisan, he was acceptable to a large section of the Congress party workers. In 1960 Nehru recalled him to the Planning Commission as its deputy chairman, a post he held till 1963. He was married to Lakshmi who had died in 1987.He had only one daughter Dr. Pushpa Naik He was imprisoned for Satyagraha in 1932, and again from 1942 to 1944.After Independence, he was honored to become the head of the first Planning Commission and authored the First Five Year Plan. In March 1950, he had joined the Indian Planning Commission as its vice-chairman. In September 1951, he was appointed Union Planning Minister in the Indian Government. He was also given charge of the portfolios of Irrigation and Power. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bombay in the general elections of 1952, and was reappointed Minister for Planning, Irrigation, and Power. He led the Indian Delegation to the Plan Consultative Committee held in Singapore in 1955, and the International Labor Conference held in Geneva in 1959.He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in the 1962 elections from the Sabarkantha constituency in Gujarat. He initiated the Congress Forum for Socialist Action in 1962. He was Union Minister for Labor and Employment during 1962 - 1963, and Union Minister for Home Affairs during 1963 to 1966. After the death of Pt. Nehru, Nanda became an interim Prime Minister. He was once again made the acting Prime Minster after Lai Bahadur Shastri's death.he had served also as Union Minister of Railways. He retired from active politics in the early 1970s. A principled politician, he found himself ' misfit and out of tune with the changed circumstances. He did not owe any property. He had lived in a rented house in New Delhi's Defense Colony from which he was evicted since he could not pay its rent and moved to Ahmedabad where he lived with his daughter. What sets him apart from almost all the other freedom fighters that held high offices in independent India is his complete insulation from desire material. He had no source of income and would not accept funds from his children or from any well wisher. A friend, Sheel Bhadra Yajee, forced him to sign an to receive freedom fighter’s pension of Rupess five hundred per month and with that he managed his living in the latter part of his life. He was a very seasoned and principled politician He died of respiratory complications following a prolonged illness on January 15,1998 at New Delhi in India. The grateful nation mourned his passing away as he was one of the most distinguished son of our motherland who lived and died for welfare of our nation. Let us join to pay our humble obeisance to his lotus feet and pledge to carry on his legacy in our life! His life should be an eye-opener for all politicians of today especially to all those who are out and out living for power and money politics most of the time!

A respectful homage and floral tribute to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh as flashed on the f.b. of Feb.27,2011.

Bishwa Nath Singh

Let us remember and pay our homage to that great revolutionary and martyr who was born on September 27,1907 and at the age of sixteen, he used to wonder as why so many Indians could not drive away the fistful of invaders and at the age of twenty three if anyone was smiling just before he was being hanged to death was none else than Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh!

Aravind Pandey Great Sir..Namaste..

.Bishwa Nath Singh:
In this Photo,Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh is seen in the Prison where he was imprisoned.Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh was born September 27, 1907 in the village Banga of Layalpur district ( now in Pakistan) as second son to Mata Vidyavati ...and Sardar Kishan Singh. At the time of his birth, his father was in jail for his connection with the Canal Colonization Bill agitation, in which his brother, Ajit Singh (Bhagat Singh's uncle), took a leading part. Through his father, who was a sympathizer and supporter of the Ghadr campaign of 1914-15, Bhagat Singh became an admirer of the leaders of the movement. The execution of Kartar Singh Sarabha made a deep impression on the mind of the young man who vowed to dedicate his life to the country. His uncle, Sardar Ajit Singh, as well as his father, were great freedom fighters, so Bhagat Singh grew up in a patriotic atmosphere. Ajit Singh established the Indian Patriots' Association, along with Syed Haidar Raza, to organize the peasants against the Chenab Canal Colony Bill. He also established the secret organization, the Bharat Mata Society. At an early age, Bhagat Singh started dreaming of uprooting the British empire. Never afraid of fighting during his childhood, he thought of "growing guns in the fields," so that he could fight against the British. Having passed the fifth class from his village school, Bhagat Singh joined Dayanand Anglo-Vedic School in Lahore. In response to the call of Mahatma Gandhl and other nationalist leaders, to boycott government aided institutions, he left his school and enrolled in the National College at Lahore. He was successful in passing a special examination preparatory to entering college. He was reading for his B.A. examination when his parents planned to have him married. He vehemently rejected the suggestion and said that, if his marriage was to take place in Slave-India, my bride shall be only death." Rather than allow his father to proceed any further with the proposal, Bhagat Singh left home and went to Kanpur where he took up a job in the Pratap Press. In his spare time, he studied revolutionary literature. He joined the Hindustan Republican Association, a radical group, later known as the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association. When Bhagat Singh was assured that he would not be compelled to marry and violate his vows sworn to his motherland, he returned to his home in Lahore. This was in 1925 when a morcha had been going on at Jaito to protest against the deposition by the British of Maharaja Ripudaman Singh of Nabha because of his sympathy with the Akali agitation. A warrant for the arrest of Bhagat Singh was issued because he had accorded a welcome to one of the jathas, but he managed to elude the police and spent five months under the assumed name of Balvant Singh in Delhi, where he worked in a daily paper Vir Arjun. The Ghadar Movement left a deep imprint on his mind. Kartar Sing Sarabha, hanged at the age of 19, became his hero. The massacre at Jallianwala Bagh on April 13, 1919 drove him to go to Amritsar, where he kissed the earth sanctified by the martyrs' blood and brought back home a little of the soaked soil.As Akali activity subsided, Bhagat Singh returned to Lahore. He established contact with the Kirti Kisan Party and started contributing regularly to its magazine, the Kirti. He also remained in touch with the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association. In March 1926 was formed the Naujawan Bharat Sabha. Bhagat Singh, one of the principal organizers became its secretary. As the Simon Commission arrived at Lahore on 30 October 1928, an all-parties procession, headed by Lala Lajpat Rai, marched towards the railway station to make a protest. Intercepting the procession, police made a laths charge and Lala Lajpat Rai received injuries. He died a fornight later. Although the British saw no connection between the lathi charge and Lala Lajpat Rai's death, Bhagat Singh and hisbelieved to have been responsible for the laths blows given Lala Lajpat Rai, but instead J.P. Saunders, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, became the actual victim owing to mistake in identification. Bhagat Singh and Rajguru had done the actual shooting. They and those who had served as lookouts escaped through the D.A.V. College grounds. The next day a leaflet was circulated by the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association announcing that the death of Lala Lajpat Rai had been avenged associates did. They plotted the assassination of Mr Scott, the Superintendent of Police,. Bhagat Singh escaped to Calcutta disguised as a wealthy personage. He remained quiet for several months, but became active again when Public Safety Bill and the Trade Disputes Bill were being debated in Delhi. As his group resolved to explode a bomb to express disapproval of the bill, Bhagat Singh and B.K. Dutt volunteered to carry out the plan. They were seated in the gallery of the Central Assembly Hall awaiting the reading of the proclamation that would enact the bills. When the announcement was made, Bhagat Singh jumped up and threw a relatively harmless bomb behind one of the members' benches. There was an explosion, followed by still another from a second bomb. No one was seriously injured. Bhagat Singh and Dutt began shouting revolutionary slogans and threw leaflets explaining their in tent of making "the deaf hear" with the loud noise of explosion. Both were promptly taken into custody. As the trial proceeded, a statement, written in its entirety by Bhagat Singh, was read in defence of the two accused. Bhagat Singh said that "force used for a legitimate cause has its moral justification." He and B.K. Dutt were found guilty and sentenced to transportation for life. After the sentence had been pronounced in the Assembly Bomb case, Bhagat Singh was bound over for trial in the Saunders Murder case, approvers having identified his role in the killing. While awaiting trial in the Lahore Jail, Bhagat Singh started a hunger strike in behalf of political prisoners. The fast was continued even after the hearing of the case began on 10 July 1929, and was subsequently joined by many others. It was not until after the death of one of these, J.N. Das, on 13 September 1929, that facilities were promised to the prisoners and the hunger-strike abandoned.During his trial, he had offered no defence, but utilized the occasion to propagate his ideal of freedom. He and his fellow accused kept delaying the proceedings by refusing to appear before the court, by ignoring what was going on, or by disrupting the work by shouting revolutionary slogans. He heard with defiant courage the death-sentence pronounced on October 7,1930. In the same spirit, he kissed the hangman's noose on March 23,1931, shouting for the last time his favourite cry, "Down with British imperialism." His body was secretly cremated at Husainivala by police and the remains thrown into the River Sutlej. The next day, however, his comrades collected the bodily remains from the cremation site and a procession was taken out in Lahore. Mourning for him was very natural and spontaneous and widespread and homage was paid to him for his sterling character and sacrifice. At the age of sixteen, he used to wonder why so many Indians could not drive away the fistful of invaders. At the age of twenty three if anyone was smiling just before he was being hanged to death Let us join to pay our humble obeisance to his lotus feet and our respectful homage to this great son of our motherland who made a history of his own and who will be always remembered by all of us for his heroic thoughts and actions!

Bishwa Nath Singh :
Lord Ram is known as the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu who is the perfect avatar of the Supreme Protector Vishnu, has always been popular among the Hindu deities. Ram is the symbol of courtesy and virtue, a man of values and morals. Ra...machandra is Maryada Purushottama, which means the perfect man. Lord Ram is considered to have taken birth on the earth to destroy the evil forces of the age. Lord Ram is widely accepted to be an actual historical figure Goswami Tulsidas' wonderful version of the Sanskrit epic "Ramayana" into "Ramcharitmanas" greatly enhanced the popularity of Ram as a Hindu god and gave rise to various devotional groups. Lord Ram was a paragon of virtues. Ram was not only kind and affectionate but generous and considerate of feelings for all around him. Lord Ram had a marvelous physique and captivating manners. He had a magnanimous personality. He was extremely noble, generous, chivalrous and fearless. He was very simple and absolutely free from flamboyance. Lord Ram is considered as a son unequalled in the world, and resembled Dasaratha in each and every aspect of good qualities. He never spoke a lie throughout his life. He always offered respect to the scholars and the elders, people loved him and he adored the people. His body was transcendental and outstanding. He was eloquent, attractive and adjustable to circumstances. He knew the heart of each and every human being on the earth (being omniscient). He had all the conceivable qualities of a king's son and was dear to the people as their own hearts.Lord Ram was endowed with incredible transcendental qualities. The earth personified adored him, who was possessor of such virtues, who was indomitable, who was brave, and who was the unequalled Lord of all. To put succinctly, Sri Ram’s life was a life of holy compliance, of stainless purity, of matchless simplicity, praiseworthy contentment, commendable self-sacrifice and remarkable renunciation. According to the widespread legends, Lord Ram is considered as the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who took an Avatar to annihilate the demon king Ravana.Lord Ram is known for his stainless personality and matchless simplicity. Lord Ram is one of the popular gods of Hindu religion.Lord Ram is the one of the commonly worshipped gods of the Hindu religion. He is recognized as the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the Universe. Lord Ram is known for his virtues. Ram is the great lord of Hanuman, the ultimate disciple. Sri Ram is also known as Maryada Purushottam Ram because he is the epitome of righteousness. Lord Ram for ages has been the symbol of virtue and chivalry and the most preached God among the Hindus. He is the most famous incarnation of Lord Sri Vishnu. Lord Ram is said to have taken birth on this earth in human form to obliterate the evil forces from here. It is believed that Sri Rama took birth in the kingdom of Kosala in Ayodhya to King Dashratha and his Queen Kaushalya. An ideal son and king, a man of virtues and morals he is popularly referred to as 'Maryada Puroshottam' literally meaning the perfect man. Lord Rama throughout his life stuck to Dharma to perform any action despite the many hardships as a result of this he had to face. Ramayana of Sage Valmiki and Ram Charitmanas of Tulsidas are the two principal texts from where we get all the information about Lord Sri Ram. Religious heads believe that Rama lived in the Treta Yuga; his worship was all the more popularized with the writing of Ramacharitmanas. In common parlance among the Hindus when people address each other they simply utter Ram! Ram! In the Ramayana the Lord is portrayed as fighting the evil Ravana of Lanka who abducted his wife Sita. The righteous Lord in the Great War defeats Ravana and frees the people of Lanka with the unjust rule of their king. The most devoted follower of Lord Rama is Sri Hanuman Ji who is always shown in the picture of Lord Sri Ram, Laxman and Sita. Ram Navami is celebrated every year on ninth day of Chaitra Masa Suklapaksha Navami. It is celebrated to mark the birth and marriage of Sri Ram to Sita. The most popular of Hindu festivals Dusshera and Diwali are associated with Lord Sri Rama. A homage to the freedom fighters as flahed on the f.b. on Feb.26,2011.

Bishwa Nath Singh

Can’t we acknowledge the supreme sacrifice and great contribution of all those by whose untiring efforts we have been freely moving around in our country without anyone questioning or imposing any kinds of restrictions on us and we feel satisfied and contended?. One should not forget that these satisfactions are due to the efforts of our freedom fighters that were responsible to free our country India from the British rule. It’s because of our freedom fighters that today we are enjoying are freedom. Their satyagrah, sacrifices, and tortures have resulted in the freedom that we enjoy today in our motherland India.

Bishwa Nath Singh :
India was under the rule of the British for over centuries, finally attaining complete freedom on August 15, 1947. Common people from different parts of the country came forward to join the freedom struggle. There are many who have gone unn...amed for their selfless acts to achieve a free India. These people may have not been given any award or credit, but they will always be remembered in the hearts of every Indian. Today as we freely move around in our country without anyone questioning or imposing any kinds of restrictions on us we feel satisfied and contended. But this satisfaction is due to the efforts taken by our freedom fighters to free our country from the British rule. Its because of our freedom fighters that today we are enjoying are freedom. Their satyagrahas, sacrifices, and tortures have resulted in the freedom that we enjoy today in our motherland India .There are also those who are known for their courage and selflessness to lead the people by showing a united front. The first freedom fighter's name that comes up in any Indian's mind is Mahatma Gandhi. Born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, he became popularly known as 'The Mahatma' or 'Gandhiji'. He gave the Indian people weapons such as non-violence and non-resistance to fight against the unjust British. Those following him were told to strictly adhere to them. Some of his famous campaigns against the tyrannical rule of the British include the Civil Disobedience, the Quit India movement, Dandi March and the Non-cooperation movement. His practices of Satyagraha or non-violent resistance has influenced leaders like former American leader Martin Luther King Jr., Myanmar's quest for democracy led by Aung San Suu Kyi and most notably anti-apartheid leader from South Africa, Nelson Mandela.Another prominent Indian freedom fighter was Lokmanya Tilak who was a teacher and scholar. He introduced prominent newspapers like "Maratha" and "Kesari" and spread the message of Swarajya and self-rule through them. He is well known for his statement - Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it. Subhas Chandra Bose is also recognized as one of the leading revolutionary freedom fighters of that era. He was jailed many times. He also founded the Indian National Army. Sardar Vallabhai Patel popularly known as the Iron Man of India was another great freedom fighter. Giving up his law practice he went on to fight for India's freedom. The first Prime Minister of free India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's speech 'Tryst with Destiny' on the eve of Indian independence, will be a glorious moment in Indian history. A charismatic and radical leader, he was one of the youngest to lead the Indian National Congress and was a youth icon throughout the country. Revolutionary freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh and Khudiram Bose were eternally symbolized as courageous and brave individuals who laid down their lives for the country at an early age.Rabindra Nath Tagore and Swami Vivekanada, although not vocal in their participation towards the freedom struggle should nonetheless be mentioned for their contributions towards Indian independence in terms of prose and poetry. Ashfaqulla Khan, Ramprasad Bismil, Madame Cama, Aurobindo Ghosh, Suhdev, Surya Sen, Vijay Lakshmi Pandit, and many others will forever be etched into people's hearts for their countless acts of valor and bravery. As true Indians, many of us fail to realize the impact of what these freedom fighters did for us nearly over sixty years ago. Yet their heroic deeds are still engraved in people's minds. What we, as the future of India should always remember, is the struggle they went through just so that we could have a better future. The freedom that we take for granted today has been given to us by people who are no longer alive to tell us how they lived each day during those tough and trying times. Let us remember not only those freedom fighters who are well known, but also those who died in the freedom struggle without having their names honored.Another famous Indian freedom fighter is Bal Gangadhar Tilak (Lokmanya Tilak) who was born in ratnagiri, a port in Maharashtra. His father was a teacher and a scholar. He was a brave boy and always fought for freedom, swarajya and self-rule. He also started two newspapers “Maratha” and “Kesari” due to which he was sent into prison. He wanted to spread the message of swarajya through his newspaper. He said, “swaraj is my birth right and I shall have it”. He died on 1st august. People loved him and accepted him as their leaders and so he was called Lokmanya Tilak. One can’t forget Acharya Vinoba Bhave when reminded of freedom fighters who was born at Gagoda, in the Kolaba district of Maharashtra on September 11,1895, who was deeply attached to his mother, Rukminibai, inherited her austerity, asceticism and altruism and whereas his father, Narahari Shambhurao, was an ardent advocate of western learning .. He knew twenty two languages. He was an ardent disciple of Mahatma Gandhi and founder of Sarvodaya and Bhoodan movements, a great thinker and writer, linguist and propagator of peace, who had led a life of absolute celibacy who had passed away on November 15, 1982. and was posthumously honored with the Country’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna in 1983..The great freedom fighters of India can be remembered as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi , Annie Besant , Rani Lakshmibai . Bhikaji Cama , Mangal Pandey , Lal Bahadur Shastri , Sarojini Naidu , Bhagat Singh , Chandrasekhar Azad , Bal Gangadhar Tilak , Dr. Rajendra Prasad , Chakravarti Rajagopalachari , Gopal Krishna Gokhale , Jawaharlal Nehru , Indira Gandhi , Lala Lajpat Rai , Maulana Abul Kalam Azad , Subhas Chandra Bose , Dadabhai Naoroji , Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel , Bipin Chandra Pal , Tantia Tope , Khudiram Bose ,Janaki Devi Bajaj and many others who struggled hard for bringing independence to our country from centuries old British Colonial Rule. The other day,I had honor to present a key note address on the eve of thirtieth death anniversary of a freedom fighter who hailed fro Bihar State of India Budhan Rai Verma who was a childhood friend and class mate of my most loving father who had died in the year 1985. There are many freedom fighters like Verma and as my father who had sacrificed their life for welfare of our nation without expecting anything in return.Let us join to pay our humble obeisance to the lotus feet of all freedom fighters who are either alive or dead whose contribution and sacrifice will be always cherished by all of us!

The Dalai Lama was first recognized in the sixteenth century. The first person so designated, a leader of the 'yellow sect' of Tibetan Buddhism named Sonan Gyats, was given the title of the Third Dalai Lama, and his two predecessors were re...cognized as the first and second Dalai Lamas after the fact. It was the fifth Dalai Lama who became the state ruler as well as religious leader of Tibet. 'Dalai Lama' means Ocean of Wisdom, and all holders of the title are assumed to be the earthly incarnation of Avalokitesvara, the bodhisattva of compassion..The current Dalai Lama is the fourteenth of his line, and was born to a farming family in 1935 and given the name Lhamo Dhondrub. He was recognized at the age of two, and brought, with his family, to live in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, at the age of four, where he became His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso. (Dalai Lamas, like Popes, change names upon taking up their office.) He was reared and educated (to the equivalent of a PhD) in the monastery system. When China annexed Tibet in 1959, the Dalai Lama and thousands of his supporters fled into exile. He has lived in Dharamsala, India, since 1960, and heads the Tibetan government-in-exile. Note that China does not recognize Tibet as an independent political entityThe Dalai Lama has been a powerful spokesman for Tibet, and Buddhism in general, and has written a number of books on the topic. His consistent opposition to violence was recognized in 1989 with the award pf Nobel Peace Prize. He is known widely as an apstle of Peace. Let us join to pay our humble obeisance to his lotus feet!

It's my thought for the day that I wish to share with everybody. The above Photograph is of Nelson Mandela.who had ed the African National Congress, a black liberation group that opposed South Africa’s white minority government and apartheid.... Mandela was initially opposed to violence, but after a massacre of unarmed black South Africans in 1962, he began advocating acts of sabotage against the government. In 1962, he began a twenty-seven year stay in prison. Most of his confinement was spent during hard labor at the notorious Robben Island maximum-security prison. During his imprisonment, he became a symbol of the anti-apartheid movement among South Africa’s black population and among the international community that opposed apartheid. He had rejected several government offers to allow him to leave prison on the condition that he renounce violence. Mandela was released from prison and instantly became an international celebrity. Mandela shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 with F.W. deKlerk, South Africa’s last white president. Their combined efforts ended apartheid and brought about a peaceful transition to nonracial democracy in South Africa. Three years after his release, South Africans of all races were allowed to vote for the first time in a national election. They selected Mandela as their president, giving him 62% of the vote. The same person who was once was a symbol of black resistance in South Africa later eventually because the nation’s first black President. His Government was praised for its treatment of South Africa’s white minorities. One white South African told our class in 1996 that he has treated us better than we treated him. His Government had its critics. Crime increased during his term, but the violent war between the races ended. Every South African were glad that their life is better today than it was before he had taken oath of Presidency of South Africa. H had married for the third time on his eightieth birthday in 1998. A year later he retired from the Presidency. The four hundred year-old prison on Robben Island is now a museum. Mandela is a vocal supporter of SOS Children's Villages, the world's largest organisation dedicated to raising orphaned and abandoned children. Mandela appeared in a televised advertisement for the 2006 Winter Olympics, and was quoted for the International Olympic Committee's Celebrate Humanity campaign. Mandela Day on the 18th July is an annual international day adopted by the United Nations.

He was born July 18, 1918 in Mvezo, a small village located in the district of Umtata, the Transkei capital. He had honor to be the South Africa's eleventh president and its first democratically elected president He has Khoisan ancestry on his mother's side. His patrilineal great-grandfather Ngubengcuka who had passed away in 1832, ruled as the Inkosi Enkhulu, or king, of the Thembu people. One of the king's sons, named Mandela, became Nelson's grandfather and the source of his surname. However, because he was only the Inkosi's child by a wife of the Ixhiba clan -the so-called "Left-Hand House, the descendants of his branch of the royal family were not eligible to succeed to the Thembu throne. His father, Gadla Henry Mphakanyiswa, served as chief of the town of Mvezo. However, upon alienating the colonial authorities, they deprived Mphakanyiswa of his position, and moved his family to Qunu. Despite this, Mphakanyiswa remained a member of the Inkosi's Privy Council, and served an instrumental role in Jongintaba Dalindyebo's ascension to the Thembu throne. Dalindyebo would later return the favour by informally adopting Mandela upon Mphakanyiswa's death His father had four wives, with whom he fathered thirteen children -four boys and nine girls. He was born to his third wife, Nosekeni Fanny. Nelson Mandela was seen internationally as being responsible for helping to end apartheid. In 1993, three years after his freedom from the confines of jail, Nelson Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace PrizeSouth Africans call Nelson Mandela either "mkhulu" which means grandfather, or Madiba, the Mandela family name for a respected elder. Nelson Mandela was given his first name by a school teacher who had trouble saying his actual first name, Rolihlahla. She called him "Nelson" after Horatio Nelson, the British admiral. Mandela was seven years old when he started school and was the first one in his family to go to school.

Mandela was seven years old when he started school and was the first one in his family to go to school.Nelson Mandela finished the three year Junior Certificate program at the Clarkebury Boarding Institute, a missionary school, in only two years. He attended the University of South Africa (UNISA) and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree while clerking in a law firm. Apartheid was a way of life in the 1950's, given the political climate of South Africa. Mandela and his friend and law partner, Oliver Tambo, did pro bono and reduced cost legal work for blacks. They were also involved in the cause against apartheid, believing that blacks and whites should not be segregated.Nelson Mandela, along with a group of anti-apartheid protesters, was arrested on the charge of treason in 1956. The whole group was acquitted. Mandela soon gave up on non-violent protests as these tactics were not successful and the opposition's violence was only getting worse. Seeing no other way, Mandela led an armed division of the ANC. Mandela's violent strategy amounted to human rights violations, since the guerrilla warfare by the ANC killed many civilians, but he insisted it was the only way to end apartheid.Nelson Mandela was arrested 5 August 1962 and released from prison 2 February 1990. Pro-apartheid South African president, P.W. Botha, had a stroke in 1989 and Botha's replacement, Frederik Willem de Klerk, freed Mandela. Botha had once offered Nelson Mandela release from jail in 1985, but only on the condition that Mandela would stop the armed conflict. Nelson Mandela chose to stay in prison as he believed it was the right thing to do in order to put an end to apartheid. He is one of the world’s most revered statesmen, Nelson Mandela led the struggle to replace South Africa’s apartheid regime with a non-racial democracy. He was inspired from a young age by his own elders’ courage during the wars of resistance and resolved at that time to support the freedom struggle of his people. As a law student Mandela was active in student politics and he joined the African National Congress (ANC) in 1943. By 1952 he was leading national anti-apartheid activities, and opened the country’s first black law firm with Oliver Tambo. Throughout the 1950s he was banned, arrested and imprisoned for his activities. In the early 1960s he worked in the underground resistance movement and also travelled abroad. In 1962, shortly after his return to South Africa, he was arrested, tried and sentenced to five years in prison. While in prison he was also charged with sabotage and the Rivonia trial, as it has come to be known, was where Mandela made one of his most famous statements. “I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”In 1964 he was jailed for life and spent twenty seven years in prison. In 1985, from prison, he began talks with the apartheid government which evolved into a dialogue and eventually, his release. On his release in 1990, Mandela again moved to the leadership of his people’s liberation struggle. In 1991 he was elected leader of the ANC. In 1994 the country’s first non-racial elections were held – the first time that Mandela himself was able to vote in his own country. He was elected President and served a five year term. Since stepping down as President in 1999, Mandela has become South Africa’s highest-profile ambassador, campaigning in the fight against HIV/AIDS.He was also active in peace negotiations in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi. Fondly known in South Africa by his clan name ‘Madiba’, Mr. Mandela remains an inspiration to all those around the world fighting injustice and oppression. He had distinction to serve as the President of South Africa from May 10, 1994 to June 14,1999 and the nineteenth Secretary General of Non-Alignment Movement from September 2,1998 to June 14,1999. He had married thrice ,two of his spouses were Evelyn Ntoko Mase from 1944 to 1957, and Winnie Madikizela from 1957 to 1998 and later ,they were separated and the third one Graça Machel from 1998 who is continuing. As he has been married three times, has fathered six children, has twenty grandchildren, and a growing number of great-grandchildren. He is grandfather to Chief Mandla Mandela. Mandela became the oldest elected President of South Africa when he took office at the age of seventy five in 1994. It's my thought for the day that I would like to share with everybody. The above Photo is of K.Kamaraj who had remained Chief Minister for three consecutive terms. On October 2, 1963, he resigned to serve a greater purpose. Kamaraj noticed t...hat the Congress party was slowly losing its vigor . He came up with a plan which was called the "Kamaraj Plan." He proposed that all senior Congress leaders should resign form their posts and devote all their energy to the re-vitalization of the Congress. A number of Central and State ministers like Lal Bahadur Shastri, Jagjivan Ram, Morarji Desai and S.K. Patil followed suite and resigned from their posts. In 1964, Kamaraj was elected the President of the All India Congress and he successfully navigated the nation through the stormy years following Nehru's death. On October 2, 1975, Gandhi Jayanti, Kamaraj awoke from his afternoon nap feeling uneasy. His housekeeper, Vairavan, rang up his physician. While he was on his way out, Kamaraj said, "Vairavan, put out the lights when you go out." K. Kamaraj died that day. He was honored with the highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna, posthumously in 1976.Let us pay our respectful homage to him who is no more with us but his memories will always remain alive in our thoughts and prayers!

The releavance of Gandhian Philosophy as seen today is flashed on the f.b. on Feb.25,2011.

The Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi is as good as today as it was in the past.Let us examine it crtically and emulate it in our life to make it successful!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bishwa Nath Singh :
The Gandhian concept of the charkha was a symbol of self-entrepreneurship, which alone can help the nation protect its bio-diversity and provide sustenance to the poorest of the poor How sad is that when everything is creating disillusionme...nt, people are being drawn to violence. Only Gandhi an thoughts can equip the present and the future generations to deal with it without committing violence on them. Mahatma Gandhi had popularized the charkha (spinning wheel) because the British colonial rule was wiping out the textile production of India.. Today's colonization is around patenting of life, genetic manipulation of food, monopolies over water, seeds, plants and animals. In this context the 'seed' becomes the charkha. Gandhi has been an important role model for most of us. It was my environmental concerns that made me search for viable thoughts, philosophies and actions. I found inspiration nowhere else!Gandhi's diet was based on a principle that is good for the soil, the producer and the consumer. What is called the economics of abundance is economics of scarcity. The Green Revolution was supposed to create abundance Gandhi encouraged self-entrepreneurship. This generates better income, because of diversity of crops. If we examine critically then we will find that Gandhi’s life before the Satyagraha movement in South Africa was ordinary. He was a barrister, married and enjoyed life.Yet, the life he led after this milestone was characterized by extraordinary insight, determination and courage. Gandhi's ideas about human relations, particularly conflict, are difficult to grasp because they ask the individual to subsume some of his/her most basic reactions to confrontation such as revenge, retaliation and punishment, which, arguably, are attempts to affirm the rightness of his/her position to a higher Truth, which is associated with Love. At the same time, Gandhi affirms the power of individual will, arguing that it is capable of withstanding and even challenging the strongest adversity. The key to satyagraha is the practice of non-violence. Gandhian non-violence is not passive or weak; rather, it is characterized by determination, courage and hardiness of will. The concept of non-violence is coupled with self-suffering, a concept that is probably alien to most of us. Self-suffering, based on choice, provides an alternative to violence and is ultimately an expression of the strength of one's will. In the salt satyagraha, multitudes of people practiced Gandhian non-violence in response to conflict. In this campaign, Gandhi and his fellow participants challenged the injustice of the government, a government that withheld a necessity of Indian life. Gandhi emphasized that it was no usurping of the functions of Government," and "the establishment of a parallel Government. The objectives of the Salt Satyagraha, a national movement which took place from March 1930 to March 1931, were to remove the Salt Acts and to protest against the British government with the hopes of achieving independence The Salt Acts were the basis by which the government monopolized salt. The taxation of salt, a necessity, was a "hardship on the people, especially the poor" The Salt Acts represented "an unpopular, unrepresentative, and alien government" The long-range aim of the Salt Satyagraha was to achieve independence. Gandhi marched for a month, covering 240 miles. About 78 males, representing most provinces, marched with Gandhi. The area chosen for the salt march was favorable; not only did it produce a large amount of salt, it was reminiscent of past campaigns. Gandhi and his fellow participants lived a spartan life during the march, educating villagers on the salt tax as well as discussing village issues such as untouchability Gandhi drew large crowds, sometimes numbering over ten thousand. Muslims and women, who had participated,. Mahatma Gandhi's non-violent individual can be described using the two concepts that are most important in his philosophy: ahimsa and satyagraha. Ahimsa, of course is the principle of non-violence. Mahatma Gandhi believes that the love of God or the Supreme Being must necessarily manifest in all of our actions. This means that we should practice non-violence. In Mahatma Gandhi's spiritual point of view, we have struggles that we need to fight internally. These are desires, fear, worry, and anxieties. But these fights should only occur inside; we should never involve ourselves with other beings. Thus, Mahatma Gandhi's non-violent individual must never cause harm to others. This person must not kill any living thing or harm it in any way. If we do harm other living things, we will reap the negative karma that comes with it. But this principle of non-violence does no stay in the realm of religion. Gandhi also argued that this principle can be applied to politics as well through non-violent satyagrahas. Satyagrahais a practice that Mahatma Gandhii developed in order for us to apply the principle of non-violence even in resistance. This principle is useful in politics and society especially when we are being oppressed or mistreated. We cannot just let ourselves be hurt and oppressed because of the principle of non-violence. If we do, people will definitely take advantage of us. Gandhi's Satyagraha has influenced a lot of people in history such as Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King in their fight for freedom, equality and social justice. Satyagraha is the eagerness to follow the truth principles and following non-violence at the same time. Some people seek the truth through Satyagraha by fasting for days until the truth is revealed. Workers go on strike in the name of Satyagraha when they have complaints with the management. But this is already deviating to the real meaning of Stayagraha spiritually – which is finding the truth through the will of God or the Supreme Being.

The significance of mother as flashed on the f.b. on Feb.24,2011.

The world mother has a very special significance in one’s mind as it is holy and very sacred bondage of our pious relationship. None can replace a mother who grooms her children so well least caring for her own comforts. Let us pay our humble obeisance to our holy mother and seek her bliss for well-being of all living –being of this universe!

Bishwa Nath Singh :
Let us join to pay our humble tribute to our holy mother who had groomed us so well to the extent as what we are today. The earliest tributes to mothers date back to the annual spring festival the Greeks dedicated to Rhea, the mother of ma...ny deities, and to the offerings ancient Romans made to their Great Mother of Gods, Cybele. Christians celebrated this festival on the fourth Sunday in Lent in honor of Mary, mother of Christ. In England this holiday was expanded to include all mothers and was called Mothering Sunday. In the United States, Mother's Day started nearly 150 years ago, when Anna Jarvis, an Appalachian homemaker, organized a day to raise awareness of poor health conditions in her community, a cause she believed would be best advocated by mothers. She called it "Mother's Work Day." Fifteen years later, Julia Ward Howe, a Boston poet, pacifist, suffragist, and author of the lyrics to the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," organized a day encouraging mothers to rally for peace, since she believed they bore the loss of human life more harshly than anyone else. In 1905 when Anna Jarvis died, her daughter, also named Anna, began a campaign to memorialize the life work of her mother. Legend has it that young Anna remembered a Sunday school lesson that her mother gave in which she said, "I hope and pray that someone, sometime, will found a memorial mother's day. There are many days for men, but none for mothers." Anna began to lobby prominent businessmen like John Wannamaker, and politicians including Presidents Taft and Roosevelt to support her campaign to create a special day to honor mothers. At one of the first services organized to celebrate Anna's mother in 1908, at her church in West Virginia, Anna handed out her mother's favorite flower, the white carnation. Five years later, the House of Representatives adopted a resolution calling for officials of the federal government to wear white carnations on Mother's Day. In 1914 Anna's hard work paid off when Woodrow Wilson signed a bill recognizing Mother's Day as a national holiday. At first, people observed Mother's Day by attending church, writing letters to their mothers, and eventually, by sending cards, presents, and flowers. With the increasing gift-giving activity associated with Mother's Day, Anna Jarvis became enraged. She believed that the day's sentiment was being sacrificed at the expense of greed and profit. In 1923 she filed a lawsuit to stop a Mother's Day festival, and was even arrested for disturbing the peace at a convention selling carnations for a war mother's group. Before her death in 1948, Jarvis is said to have confessed that she regretted ever starting the mother's day tradition. Despite Jarvis's misgivings, Mother's Day has flourished in the United States. In fact, the second Sunday of May has become the most popular day of the year to dine out, and telephone lines record their highest traffic, as sons and daughters everywhere take advantage of this day to honor and to express appreciation of their mothers.

The great significance of Lord Krishna as flashed on the f.b. on Feb.24,2011.

Bishwa Nath Singh

It has been mentioned in holy books that in Mahabharata battle fought at Kurukshetra none dared to attack Krishna though other charioteers were badly attacked and injured and most of them had lost their lives. Lord Krishna eliminated Arjuna’s doubts by narrating the Bhagwat Gita to him verbally and imparting him with spiritual expe...riences, which are beyond words. During the said war Krishna had adopted the Dnyan Mudra (mudra of knowledge). After the war, was over, there was a conversation between a vulture and a fox about the deceased. In it, They had also discussed the faults of all men, including those of Yudhishthira ,King of Righteousness (Dharma), but not a single fault was discoved in Lord Krishna and as such they did not discuss anything about Lord Krishna.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bishwa Nath Singh:
Lord Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, as described by the Vedas. The Vedas are the eternal truths of life originating in India that have been passed down from time immemorial originally through oral reception, and more recentl...y through written scripture in the Sanskrit language. Though there are many different religions in the world each having their own name for God, God is still one. There isn’t one God for Hindus and another for Christians and Jews.Even in the Vedic literatures, God has many names and many different incarnations and expansions. Lord Krishna is the original of all other expansions. In Sanskrit, the word Krishna means “all-attractive.” Krishna is the most beautiful, powerful, famous, wealthy, wise and renounced. Since He possesses all these opulence at the same time and in full, He is defined as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Lord Krishna personally appeared on this planet some five thousand years ago in Mathura, India. The reasons behind His advent were many, but they were primarily to kill the demon Kamsa and give protection and salvation to His devotees. Krishna was born as the eighth son of His father and mother, Vasudeva and Devaki. At the time of His birth, Krishna’s parents were prisoners of Devaki’s brother King Kamsa. A prophecy had warned Kamsa that he would one day be killed by Devaki’s eighth son. Thus Kamsa had killed every one of Devaki’s first seven children and was planning on doing the same to Lord Krishna. In order to protect his newborn son, Vasudeva transported Krishna to Vrindavan. In Vrindavan, Lord Krishna was raised by His foster parents, Nanda Maharaj and Yashoda.. Lord Krishna was an absolute incarnation (Samparipurn Avatar). An absolute incarnation is not actually an incarnation but The Lord Himself; hence it possesses all the characteristics of The Lord. Some special features and missions of Lord Krishna are enumerated below.Devaki and Vasudev were the parents of Krishna. On the command of Lord Vishnu, the Great Illusion (Yogamaya) placed the seventh child of Devaki in the womb of Vasudev’s second wife, Rohini and Herself entered the womb of Devaki. After birth when Kansa came to kill Her, She escaped from his clutches and left for Her abode. Krishna is Devaki’s eighth child. After He was born, Vasudev took Him to the home of Nanda and Yashoda in Gokul. Vasudev also sent Rohini along with her son to Gokul. The priest of the Yadu dynasty, Sage Garga at the request of Vasudev, secretly performed the naming ceremony of both the children, Rohini’s son as Rama and Devaki’s as Krishna. Later Rama came to be known as Balaram because of the tremendous strength that He possessed.Lord Krishna went to Mathura to slay Kansa at the age of seven years. It was then that His childhood ended. In Vrindavan, Lord Krishna was raised by His foster parents, Nanda Maharaj and Yashoda. He enacted many wonderful pastimes in His childhood. Krishna has many different names, such as Govinda, Gopala, Giridhari, and Damodara to name a few. These names are all based on His different pastimes and activities. The Lord grew up as a cowherd and He brought joy to all who lived in Vrindavan. In pictures, Krishna is usually seen standing with His eternal consort, Shrimati Radharani. After the slaying of Kansa and the thread ceremony, Balaram and Krishna went to the ashram of Guru Sandipani in the city of Avanti. There within a span of sixty-four days He learnt the fourteen types of sciences (vidyas) and the sixty-four arts (kalas). Generally to learn one science one requires two to two and a half years. He was close even to people who were much older than Him. At the age of just seven, Krishna did not allow the milkmaids to go to Mathura because He did not want that His childhood ended. The Lord grew up as a cowherd and He brought joy to all who lived in VrindavanIn pictures, Krishna is usually seen standing with His eternal consort, Shrimati Radharani. She is Lord Krishna’s pleasure potency and His most beloved devotee. She is always thinking of Krishna, and therefore we worship her along with Krishna.During Lord Krishna’s time, there was a great war that took place between the Pandava and Kaurava dynasties on the battlefield of Kurukshetra in India. Arjuna was one of the leading warriors for the Pandavas. Since Arjuna was Lord Krishna’s good friend and cousin, the Lord served as his charioteer during the war. Prior to the war’s commencement, Arjuna felt hesitant to fight, and so Lord Krishna stopped and gave him a discourse on the meaning of life. Their discussion has been chronicled in the famous book, Bhagavad-Gita.The Gita is a highly philosophical book, but its essential instruction is that the true purpose of life is to surrender under Lord Krishna, or God, through the practice of bhakti yoga, or devotional service. Devotional service involves the nine processes of hearing, chanting, remembering, worshipping, serving the lotus feet of the Lord, offering prayers, carrying out the orders of the Lord, making friends with Him, and surrendering everything to Him. Engaging in any or all of these processes will surely make our lives perfect.Vedic literature such as the Bhagavata Purana (Shrimad-Bhagavatam), Hari-Vamsha, Mahabharata, Bramhavaivarta Purana, and many others describe Lord Krishna’s pastimes in much greater detail. Immersing oneself in any of these literatures with faith and devotion to Krishna will guarantee one bliss and happiness in this life and the next. Krishna’s Mercy is dedicated to serving the lotus feet of Lord Shri Krishna.Let us join to offer our humble obeisances to the lotus feet of Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha Rani who are our savior!

Marriage is beifical to the society as flashed on the f.b. on Feb.24,2011.

Bishwa Nath Singh

Marriage is a term for social relationships of husband and wife or of plural mates. Also used for the ceremony of uniting marital partners. It is said that marriages are made in heaven and celebrated on earth. The popular belief is true to many extents, because it is a special bond shared between two souls, who tie the wedding knot after promising to be companions for a lifetime. It is the physical, mental and spiritual unison of two souls. It brings significant stability and substance to human relationships, which is otherwise incomplete. Let us have glimpse of the concept of the marriage in brief!

The institution of marriage is beneficial to the society as a whole, because it is the foundation of the family, which in turn is the fundamental building block of the society. While the concept of marriage remains the same across the globe,... the way of solemnizing it differs extensively. Different laws have been formulated to legalize the ceremony, which proves to be an important turning point in one's life. Apart from the laws of marriages, the rituals following during the ceremony are in total contrast to each other. Something that is seen in the western countries cannot be witnessed in other nations in the developing world, primarily due to the contrast in the lifestyle and religious beliefs. One of the prime reasons for the paramount status of marriage is that it is the license for two individuals to live together in a society, without many limitations. As regards to India, marriage encompasses a number of meanings, apart from being a legalized way of uniting two people. It bears a lot of social significance. This is primarily because in India, marriage has been considered a way to bring the families of two individuals closer. Since the ancient times, marriages have been celebrated as ceremonious occasions, just like the religious festivals, wherein a number of rituals and customs are followed. A number of ceremonies are observed before, during and after wedding. The key to successful marriage is love, understanding, mutual respect, trust, commitment and togetherness. While many couples are able to find all the key ingredients in their marital relationships, others find one element or more lacking in their bond. This gives rise to consequences that are not always expected, or desired. This is a reason why a number of couples face adverse consequences, like divorce. One of the visible reasons why married couples find marriage as an intimidating bond is that they face a number of problems, while being in the relationship. Lack of trust, mutual respect, love and understanding contribute to the deterioration of the bond. Marriage, as we know it in our Western civilization today, has a long history with roots in several very different ancient cultures, of which the Roman, Hebrew, and Germanic are the most important. Western marriage has further been shaped by the doctrines and policies of the medieval Christian church, the demands of the Protestant Reformation, and the social impact of the Industrial Revolution. When we look at the marriage customs of our ancestors, we discover several striking facts. For example, for the most of Western history, marriage was not a mere personal matter concerning only husband and wife, but rather the business of their two families which brought them together. Most marriages, therefore, were arranged. Moreover, the wife usually had much fewer rights than her husband and was expected to be subservient to him. To a considerable extent, marriage was also an economic arrangement. There was little room for romantic love, and even simple affection was not considered essential. Procreation and cooperation were the maim martial obligations..On the other hand, it may surprise many modern couples to learn that in earlier times divorce was often easily granted. Here again, men usually had the advantage when they could simply dismiss their wives, but in many instances women could also sue for divorce. In ancient Rome couples could even divorce each other by mutual agreement, a possibility that has not yet returned to all European countries. Another notable historical fact is the nearly universal stress on the necessity of marriage and the resulting pressure on single persons to get married. This pressure was partially lifted only under the influence of Christianity which, at least for some time, found a special virtue in celibacy..The popular belief is true to many extents, because it is a special bond shared between two souls, who tie the wedding knot after promising to be companions for a lifetime. It is the physical, mental and spiritual unison of two souls. It brings significant stability and substance to human relationships, which is otherwise incomplete. It plays a crucial role in transferring the culture and civilization from one generation to the other, so that the human race is prospered. The institution of marriage is beneficial to the society as a whole, because it is the foundation of the family, which in turn is the fundamental building block of the society. While the concept of marriage remains the same across the globe, the way of solemnizing it differs extensively. Different laws have been formulated to legalize the ceremony, which proves to be an important turning point in one's life. It involves not only the right to conceive and rear children, but also a host of other obligation and privileges affecting a good many people. The real meaning of marriage is the acceptance of a new status, with a new set of privileges and obligations, and the recognition of this new status by others. A legal marriage legitimizes a social status and creates a set of legally recognized rights and duties.Marriage is one of the oldest socially recognized institution and essential for the procreation of children and satisfaction of our sexual urges. In different societies there are different methods of marriage. Some of the societies allow a male to marry only a single female whereas in other societies a husband is allowed to have more than one wife. Similarly some societies will not allow a woman to have more than one husband whereas other societies will not mind a woman having more than one husband. In some cases the parent arranges the marriage whereas in others the boys and girls arrange their marriage.
