Sardar Swaran Singh who was born a farming family in the village of Shankar in the Jallandhar District of the state of Punjab on August 19,1907 could be very well said as a great politician of our nation. He was married in 1925 to Charan... Kaur and had four daughters. He had entered politics in 1946, when he was elected a member of the Punjab legislative assembly. He was truly a noble man with high thinking of our Political scenario of our country. He had distinction of serving our country in the post-independence era as cabinet minister for the longest period than any one else. He had entered the cabinet of our country’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, in 1952, and was that government's last surviving member in Nehru’s cabinet and in successive governments until he resigned in November 1975.He had served as India's Foreign Minister from 1964 to 1966, and again from 1970 to 1974. The Masks-By-Kamlesh Bahukhandi

.by Kamalesh Bahukhandi on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 3:15pm.

Ek Chehre pe kai chehre Laga lete hain log (People put many masks on their real faces! ) This old Hindi number was emitting out of the tuner of my car .Beautiful song, melodious and meaningful .But the meaning is sarcastic and actually an accusation that people try to hide their real self behind a mask achieve ulterior motives .In fact when we talk about mask it does not mean face alone .It is personality which changes including mental and physical attitude and behavior.
In general conversation a change in person’s behavior and attitude is referred to in bad light.”Girgit ki tarah rang badlana ‘ or Mukhote chadhana etc are few quotes to refer to such a change. But is it really true? Are these changes really bad always and malafide? Don’t we change masks every now and then? Masks are both good and bad .Let me prove my point .One behaves differently as a father or son ,as a spouse, sibling and as a master or servant .There can be umpteen such examples in context of social relations for any given situation or circumstances for that matter .
In these changing situations there is instant change in one’s mental attitude .The body language also changes completely .For example a man can not behave with same mentally and body language with mother ,wife and sister ! In fact he can not behave with the same person in same manner on all occasions .Many times professionals are blamed for being emotionless ,heartless cut and dry etc.. But some times its our professional mask!. People forget that writing by and large is an art and needs to be practiced every day .And a writer as people expect suppose to be very emotional but then who will be professional?
Believe me writers are more emotional as compared to anybody else .They are normal human beings with extra healthy emotional quotient as compare to other professionals like doctors , lawyers . and engineers For a doctor when his or her patient is serious ,not responding to treatment or before going to operation theater for a difficult uncommon operation , when the entire family of the patient is very emotional in this situation doctor have to be emotionless otherwise how he/she will perform his/her duties or task of operation ?.It’s another thing and I believe that a doctor also prays to God to save the life of his /her patient ,he/she also cries in isolation when he /she fails to save somebody from the Jews of death. Thus a doctor is not expected to be emotional every time .But as far as a writer is concerned he is emotional all the times,as job of writing is not possible without emotions and depicts just opposite where people hide their emotions behind their seriousness .
I am sure it is same with lawyers ,police men and other professionals ,also who are depicted as ruthless sometimes .Agreed that there can always be a few lack these colours of emotion ,but they are in same percentage . What I believe is there is no problem if people’s behavior change it really bad if one changes his/her basic human qualities ,like honesty ,commitment ,trust ,worthiness and so on and so fourth ..Well then there are people who lack these qualities .they are untrustworthy ,cunning and have bad intentions .They will try to hide their real self, and wear a mask ! Obviously these are bad masks as compared to earlier good ones.
In society many people have rigid ‘frames’ in their minds ,for different professionals like Writers ,doctors ,teachers ,priest and policemen .If a professional does not fit in the frame ,they express dismay .I have found many people getting uncomfortable when they find that a strict and serious professional writer like me can be light hearted ,fun loving and jovial in parties. They feel uncomfortable because the frame they had of mine as a serious writer is broken !!!Allow me to quote few lines on this “ Jhoonthi tohamaten teri ki mai har pal badal jata ,Hun aina me to tere chehre badalte hain
(Your accusations are false that I keep changing every moment .I am just a mirror but you keep changing your masks)

How to tackle naxal problems as flashed on the f.b. on Nov.27,2010.

Bishwa Nath Singh :
Naxal problems can't be sorted out with use of arms and ammunitions rather than meeting their genuine demands of good education to their children, roads and better infrastructures, food and removal of disparity prevailing in between poor and rich, landless and those who are owning lands. It is not an easy task rather... require careful studies of their over all problems and required to get them sorted out. The Govt. can't overlook to their genuine demands that were not met so far and got accumulated as a result they might have taken arms in their hands.

Raj Kapoor a legendry figure of Hindi Cinema as flashed by me on the f.b. on Nov.27,2010

Bishwa Nath Singh :
How many of us recollect that when the world had celebrated hundred Years of the Cinema, Russia had planned to release a series of picture books on the great personalities of cinema who had influenced Russian viewers. They had released books on such film craftsmen as Sergei Eisentsien, Sergei Bondarchuk, Charlie Chap...lin and Raj Kapoor. For many decades, Raj Kapoor was the one foreign filmmaker besides Charlie Chaplin who had a faithful fan following deep in the heart of Soviet Russia. In 1948, Raj Kapoor had laid the foundation of his RK Studio in Mumbai. A few years later, the studio rolled out its early films – Awara and Shri 420 – which became hits in India and became famous in Soviet Russia. Even today, when one comes across an old Russian couple , he/she could come accross old couple singing ‘Awara Hun” with great fascination and heard often paying rich tribute to Raj Kapoor as he was so popular in yester years.Let us pay our respectful homage to him and have glimpse of his life history in brief!

Bishwa Nath Singh :
C. Rajagopalachari, the first & last Indian Governor General of India, was an ardent patriot, a pioneering social reformer, incisive thinker, profound scholar and author who was popularly called as Raja Ji . He was also an eminent statesman... and able administrator. He personified the ideal and set as an example of simple living and high thinking. Jawaharlal Nehru had told that “Rajaji represents fundamentally the highest type of mind in India." He was born on December 10, 1878 in Thorapalli, Madras Presidency (Tamil Nadu ) of India. Rajaji had his education in Bangalore and Madras. He qualified himself for the Bar and built up a lucrative practice. He attended the Surat Session of the Congress in 1907. He first met Gandhiji in 1919 and participated in the Non-cooperation Movement in 1920. He led the Salt Satyagraha Campaign in the South in 1930 and was imprisoned for nine months. Rajaji was elected Premier of Madras Presidency in 1937and served till 1940, when he resigned due to Britain's declaration of war against Germany. He advocated cooperation over Britain's war effort and opposed the Quit India Movement. He favoured talks with Jinnah and the Muslim League and proposed what later came to be known as the "C. R. Formula". In 1946, he was appointed Minister of Industry, Supply, Education and Finance in the interim government. He served as the Governor of West Bengal from 1947 to 1948, Governor-General of India from 1948 to 1950, Union Home Minister from 1951 to 1952 and the Chief Minister of Madras state from 1952 to 1954. He resigned from the Indian National Congress and founded the Swatantra Party, which fought against the Congress in the 1962, 1967 and 1972 elections. Rajaji was instrumental in setting up a united Anti-Congress front in Madras state. This front under C. N. Annadurai captured power in the 1967 elections.Rajaji was an accomplished writer and made lasting contributions to Indian English literature. He is also credited with composition of the song Kurai Onrum Illai set in Carnatic music. He pioneered temperance and temple entry movements in India and advocated Dalit upliftment. Rajaji has been criticized for introducing the compulsory study of Hindi and the controversial Madras Scheme of Elementary Education in Tamil Nadu. Critics have often attributed his pre-eminence in politics to his being a favorite of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. He was a champion of free enterprise, prohibition and disarmament. He went to the U.S. in 1962 as the leader of the Indian delegation to plead against the piling up of nuclear weapons in the world. Rajaji was gifted with the rare talent of re-telling stories from the epics and the” puranas”. He wrote a number of books of enduring value as the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the Bhagwat Gita and the Upanishads. He was an accomplished writer and speaker in English and Tamil.Rajaji was gifted with the rare talent of re-telling stories from the epics and the puranas. He wrote a number of books of enduring value as the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the Gita and the Upanishads. He was an accomplished writer and speaker in English and Tamil. Rajaji has the unique distinction of being the only Indian Governor-General. Rajaji had served as Acting Governor-General during November,1947, when Lord Mountbatten was in England to attend Prince Phillip's marriage to then-Princess Elizabeth..Rajaji led a very simple life in the viceregal palace. It is known that he used to wash his own clothes. During this time a friend of Rajaji came to visit him. He was surprised to see the acting Governor-General Rajaji polishing his own shoes and asked why a governal general should polish his shoes. Rajaji replied sarcastically "Yes, indeed it is my own shoe and whose shoe do you polish?".Rajaji as Governor-General, Jawaharlal Nehru, as Prime Minister and Sardar Patel, as Deputy Prime Minister, constituted an impressive triumvirate which ruled the country from 1948 - 1950.By the end of the year 1949, it was assumed that Rajaji, already Governor-General, was going to continue as President. But due to the internal politics of the Congress mainly between the supporters of Nehru and Patel, Rajendra Prasad was also taken up as a possible candidate.Congressmen who were opponents of Rajaji used his non-participation in the Quit India Movement as a weapon against him. Rajaji immediately called Rajendra Prasad and told him that as he did not want the country to witness a conflict between senior leaders so soon after the death of Mahatma Gandhi, he would withdraw from the Presidential Contest. Thus Rajendra Prasad became the President. of India. He was given the highest National Award of "Bharat Ratna" the first three recipients of India in the year 1954. Rajaji had died on December 25, 1972 in Madras, Tamil Nadu, India at the age of Ninety four. Though, he is no more with us but his ideals will remain close to our heart for ever. Let us pay our respectful homage to him and pay our humble obeisance’s to his lotus feet and seek his bliss to give us passion & wisdom to strive hard for well-being of our motherland!

The over all development of Bihar as envisaged & flashed on the f.b. on Nov.26,2010

Bishwa Nath Singh

Bihar has a piquant situation. Large part of North Bihar are suffering with ravages of flood in due to spate of flood water in Kosi,Gandak & other rivulets whereas other parts of the state are suffering badly with draught because of very scanty rain. The state has naxal problems in most part of it as they find refuge easily in ...hilly & mountainous regions. The power position are very erratic all over the state as a result ,no new industries have come up in recent past and old industries are either under liquidation or on decaying stage. The per capita income of a man in the state is not unto the national level. The infrastructure of the state are very poor. Though, the state is primarily an agricultural state, but irrigation faculties are very poor and no fertilizer industry is there in the state. The roads are very bad and traffic problems are acute. Unless the State is turned into Agro based Industrial State, chances of rise in per capita income seems to be remote. There are many tourist spots in the state that require proper development to attract tourists at all those sites. We are happy that the State is free from communal tension & rivalries. Nalanda is being glorified to have a central University where large number of foreigners may come to join their courses soon. Casteism is one the greatest menace of the state that should be minimized and terrorism must be contained fully.

Dear God , look God ! Where have I landed !! India ’ is the greenest country of the world ,they brag .But not an iota of that boast is correct! God , I miss you a lot and want to meet you as soon as possible .I tried to fly but couldn’t for the entire sky is filled with smoke! I feel very queasy and suffocated. Many of my friends have lost their precious lives while the injured ones are still recuperating ! God ,the dangerous time of the year has come .Humans call it Diwali ,a festival of lights .But in my view ,festivals never intend to hurt any living beings .instead ,they stand with a bursting radiance of love and purity .So ,I am sure that humans are responsible for this disaster .There is pollution everywhere and leaves are covered with dust ! I was taught that sky is beautiful and blue ,but here it seemed the opposite .I tried to close my eyes tight and sleep but couldn’t do so due to the extremely uproarious atmosphere. The thought of safety made me very anxious .The country of so many God and Goddess has become ,’The country of Trash .’ What! Life without oxygen !It’s nightmare for me “said a small boy standing below my nest .”I wish people plant more trees and create awareness regarding pollution.”I heard the other one saying .But a jiffy later ,both of them made plan to go to their friend’s place and burst crackers !!!Baffled at this irony ,I scowled at them .But neither of them noticed it.My scowl went unnoticed .My eyes then darted towards a small boy who was refusing to light a ‘phuljadi’.”It would create pollution .” he explained to his dad,who in turn laughed off his innocent yet sensible statement.“your one phuljadi’s boycott won’t do any thing good to our environment blah blah…..his dad went on preaching .We were taught since childhood that “Unity is strength” Then why it is forgotten by humans, the most intelligent species ,that if many people together, take up cudgels to fight pollution ,they can easily succeed .I searched for that father son duo but they have already left. I ,began searching but again my screech went unheeded.God ,why do people forget that a man’s small step is mankind’s giant leap ???? I wanted to remonstrate and hence, went on screeching but my voice was lost somewhere amidst the clamour . I was crestfallen .I looked up and I could hear our Mother earth shrieking and writhing in pain .People loved the sky’s view while I kept thinking about the melancholy of earth. .That night was high on pollution .I have heard about programmes being organized to chalk out a plan to eradicate global warming. Saying was very easy but, putting these chalked out plans into action seemed very difficult for these” educated beings .” People preach to shun “ crackers but at the end their preaching remains a mere preaching ! Nature is wonderful gift given to us by you .So why these humans have to destroy it? Tell me why God ,why these humans have to be sooooooooooo cruel???? Just because we can’t speak? Why do they trouble us ?What harm has nature done to them? Tell me what good it is??God the worst thing is that I can’t do anything but watch us suffer …I am helpless …Love you a lot Chirpy….Blast…. Soon after , a cracker had burst and chirpy fell off the tree and died! Again he and his letter laid somewhere unnoticed .If some one out of you my good friends spotted him ,all he could do is pity.. pity Chirpy ,the bir

There was a time many years ago when people used to go for hunting of birds as sports that were finding their habitats close to lake or river but now killing of birds and their hunting are fully banned and completely prohibited. Let us hope that century of birds could be very well preserved.

It’s a fact that the recent verdict of Assembly Poll in Bihar has given well-defined mandate to Nitish Kumar who has been sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Bihar along with twenty nine ministers or so this afternoon in historic Gandhi Maidan of Patna in public full view by the Governor of Bihar. For these entire unprec...edented verdicts, the credit goes to People of Bihar at large who are keen to have all round development and good governance in the state and for that they had expressed their full faith in the able leadership of Nitish Kumar to lead the State Govt. for full term of five years and show his worth. How beauty could be defined as flashed by me on the f.b. on Nov.26,2010.

Bishwa Nath Singh :
Beauty is a characteristic of a person, that provides a perceptual experience of pleasure.Beauty is studied as part of aesthetics. The experience of "beauty" often involves the interpretation of some entity as being in balance and harmony with nature, which may lead to feelings of attraction and emotional well-being Be...cause this is a subjective, it is often said that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In its most profound sense, beauty may engender a salient experience of positive reflection about the meaning of one's own existenceA subject of beauty is anything that resonates with personal meaning. The characterization of a person as “beautiful”, whether on an individual basis or by community consensus, is often based on some combination of Inner Beauty, which includes psychological factors such as personality, intelligence, grace, politeness, charisma, integrity, congruence and elegance, and Outer Beauty, (i.e. physical attractiveness) which includes physical factors, such as health, youthfulness, facial symmetry, averageness, and complexion. People are influenced by the images they see in the media to determine what is or is not beautiful attractive patients receive more personalized care from their doctors similar to good looking students get higher grades from their teachers than students with an ordinary appearance. Beauty presents a standard of comparison, and it can cause resentment and dissatisfaction when not achieved

.DIVINE MESSAGE - 25.11.10
.by Vijay Anant on Thursday, November 25, 2010

Never try to deceive others. A fake rose can never be a real rose. And a real rose will shed its fragrance no matter how much it is crushed. If you egoistically display yourself before others, the world will eventually cast you aside. And don’t try in any way to deceive God, for in the false notion that you can fool Him you only deceive yourself.

A review on the Book "What is India" authored by Salil Grewali as flashed on the f.b. on Nov.25,2010.

Bishwa Nath Singh :
I had an unique privilege to go through the wonderful book "What is India authored by a foreigner settled down in Shillong for last many years who is known for his wisdom Salil Grewali who had taken enormous pain in collecting views of renowned Intellectuals drawn from all fields of imminence from all over the world ...and compiled them beautifully in the said book that is worth reading and commending. It is true that India is very rich in its heritage and called an epitome of the entire universe where everything could be seen like mountains, rivers, beautiful sceneries, greeneries, wild life, fruit bearing trees, flowering plants and what not, everything is there either in one part of the country or other. Our country is the most ancient one very rich in its history. The Vedas & Upanishad teach us the way of life and as how to attain salvation. They are treasure of knowledge that could be transformed in Passion & Wisdom. We had many renowned sagas in the past who devoted their entire life in search of the Almighty God. Salil Gewali is also one amongst them who had remained busy in his searches and researches in quest of God and this book is a gift of his deep thinking and extensive researches that he had carried out for over ten years wandering from one place to another on hilly tracks. The book is a wonderful compilation work as how renowned Intellectuals of the universe think about India after many years of hard work carried out by the most learned author Salil Gewali Let me hasten to congratulate him and urge all my friends & well-wishers to have a copy of this book in their personal library so that they could derive themselves as how best ‘What is India” has been very meaningfully defined by the world Intellectual giants.

Bishwa Nath Singh :
Mumbai , financial capital of our country that had shaken the entire nation. Two year ago over one hundred seventy people were mercilessly gunned down by terrorists in Mumbai. .The whole world will be echoing the public sentiment similar to us that we must not forget 26/11, lest we should have to say again that we ...take pride in being able to get back to the business of living – that by forgetting the day when terrorists wounded us most, we are ‘resilient’ and ‘strong’ as it is the day of remembrances and tone incompetent Pubic servants, security personnel & people at large to remain vigil and not to make the mistakes of the past. A candle-light vigil, a police parade, an all-religion prayer meet at the Gateway of India and a memorial service at Chabad House - people from all walks of life will remember the victims and heroes of the 26/11 terror attacks two years ago in Mumbai city in more ways than one.One minute silence will be observed at the Leopold Café at 9.40 pm on Nov.26 the time when the popular café came under attack. The candle-light vigil would be held outside the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower hotel in memory of those who lost their lives in the mayhem Besides these solemn events, students from all over India will pay their respect to all those who had lost their lives and dedicate themselves to the service of mankind. It is time to dedicate ourselves for welfare of our motherland and come forward to see well-being of all those families who had lost their nearest & dearest one during the said attack and ensure that all accused are severally punished. US President Barack Obama on the 6th of November 2011 when he visited Taj Hotel where he had stayed, wrote his comment in the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel guest book after paying respect to the victims of the November 2008 Mumbai terror attack that left at least 166 people dead.'We will always remember the events of 26/11; not only the sorrow, but also the courage and humanity that was displayed that day. The United States stands in solidarity with all of Mumbai and all of India in working to eradicate the scourge of terrorism, and we affirm our lasting friendship with the Indian people,' the presidential entry in the guest book read, the Wall Street Journal reported. In a brief speech at the hotel, US President Barack Obama condemned the 2008 attack by Pakistani terrorists who killed 166 people, including six Americans, in the financial capital of India. Though, two years have passed but still all accused have not been punished as yet few of them still not winded up. The case must be expedited and court’s order must be carried out sincerely.

Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman was born on November 7, 1888 in Tiruchinapalli, Tamil Nadu. He was the second child of Chandrasekhar Iyer and Parvathi Amma. His father was a lecturer in mathematics and physics, so he had an academic atmospher...e at home. He entered Presidency College, Madras, in 1902, and in 1904 passed his B.A. examination, winning the first place and the gold medal in physics. In 1907, C.V. Raman passed his M.A. obtaining the highest distinctions.During those times there were not many opportunities for scientists in India. Therefore, Raman joined the Indian Finance Department in 1907. After his office hours, he carried out his experimental research in the laboratory of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science at Calcutta. He carried out research in optics. In 1917 Raman resigned from his government service and took up the newly created Palit Professorship in Physics at the University of Calcutta. At the same time, he continued doing research at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Calcutta, where he became the Honorary Secretary. Raman used to refer to this period as the golden era of his career. Many talented students gathered around him at the IACS and the University of Calcutta. In 1917, Raman was offered the position of Sir Taraknath Palit Professorship of Physics at Calcutta University. He stayed there for the next fifteen years. During his tenure there, he received world wide recognition for his work in optics and scattering of light. He was elected to the Royal Society of London in 1924 and the British made him a knight of the British Empire in 1929. In 1930, Sir C.V. Raman was awarded with Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on scattering of light. The discovery was later christened as "Raman Effect".In 1934, C.V. Raman became the director of the newly established Indian Institute of Sciences in Bangalore, where two years later he continued as a professor of physics. Other investigations carried out by Raman were: his experimental and theoretical studies on the diffraction of light by acoustic waves of ultrasonic and hypersonic frequencies (published 1934-1942), and those on the effects produced by X-rays on infrared vibrations in crystals exposed to ordinary light. In 1947, he was appointed as the first National Professor by the new government of Independent India. He retired from the Indian Institute in 1948 and a year later he established the Raman Research Institute in Bangalore, where he worked till his death. He was honored with a large number of honorary doctorates and memberships of scientific societies. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society early in his career (1924) and knighted in 1929. In 1930 he won the Nobel Prize in Physics. In 1941 he was awarded the Franklin Medal. In 1954 he was awarded the Bharat Ratna. He was also awarded the Lenin Peace Prize in 1957.India celebrates National Science Day on 28 February of every year to commemorate the discovery of the Raman effect in 1928. He had won Noble Prize in science "for his work on the scattering of light and for the discovery of the effect named after him. He was the first Asian and first non-White to receive any Nobel Prize in the sciences. He died on November 21, 1970.The void created after his passing away is difficult to be replenished. He was indeed a great man. Such person seldom comes on this worldly earth. It was a great set back to the woes of the RJD-LJP alliance, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi & Congress President of Bihar who lost their seats in the recent Poll..Rabri Devi had lost in both Raghopur and Sonepur Assembly seats of Bihar where she had contested for her passage in Assembly and has lost ground to become the leader of opposition in wake of her defeat and her alliance securing less than ten percent of total votes polled.

Acharya J.B.Kripalanui had married Sucheta Kripalani (1908 -1974)in 1936 that was also a turning point of his life. It turned out to be the happiest partnership in their life. For nearly four decades there has been the closest understanding between the husband and the wife..Sucheta Kriplani was an Indian freedom figh...ter and politician. She became the first woman to be elected Chief Minister of  U.P.state. She was born in Ambala, Haryana to a Bengali family. Her father, S.N.Majumdar though a government doctor was a nationalist. Educated at Indraprastha College and St.Stephen's College, New Delhi she became a lecturer at the Banaras Hindu University. In 1936, she married socialist Acharya Jivatram Kripalani and became involved with the Indian National Congress. Like her contemporaries Aruna Asaf Ali and Usha Mehta, she came to the forefront during the Quit India Movement. She later worked closely with Mahatma Gandhi during the partion riots. She accompanied him to Noakhali in 1946. She was one of the few women who were elected to the Constituent Assembly and authored the Indian Constitution. On 15th August, 1947 she sang Vande Mataram in the Constituent Assembly. She retired from politics in 1971 and remained in seclusion till her death in 1974.

It is hard core fact that we have come on this earthly world just to enact in a drama, no sooner the drama concludes, everybody goes away. Similar is the situation with all of us .No sooner, the screen goes off, shows also comes to their end and finally all audience part take off to their destinations. Thus, time limit... is there so why to delay? Let us hurry up to accomplish our task as destined by the Almighty God and relax! Our main aims of our lives should be as how early as possible we may reach to perfection & glory in our life.

Bishwa Nath Singh In this Picture, Acharya J.B. Kripalani is seen with Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel & Sucheta Kripalani.Let us have glimpse of the life of Achaya J.B.Kripalani, a great leader & nationalist!
Acharya Jivatram Bhagwandas Kripalani (J. B. Kripalani... )was born at Hyderabad (Sind) in 1888 in an upper middle class Hindu family. Acharya means scholar. His father, Kaka Bhagwandas, was a Tahsildar (Revenue and Judical officer) in Government service. He was a staunch Vaishnava, who lived an austere life in his cottage built in front of the main family house. He was respected by his family and his neighbours, but there was a large element of fear in that respect. For, with a venerable figure he had a quick temper that spared no one.He had seven sons and one daughter, J. B. Kripalani being the sixth among the children. The second and the third brother of Kripalani became converts to Islam. One died as an absconder during the Khilafat movement and was believed to have intrigued with Afganistan for the Invasion of India. The other died in Turkey while defending it against the Greeks before the First Great War. The eldest brother was the first Amil Hindu to open a Swadeshi shop and later a leather shop. The seventh brother put on the robe of a Sanyasi, with so much fire in it that Kripalani feared him (if he feared anybody). Kripalani's sister Kikiben devoted herself to the national causeThose were days of the Bengal partition when there was a ferment among students. Kripalani also caught the spirit and raised enough trouble for the authorities of the Wilson College to be forced to migrate to the quieter atmosphere of the D.J. Sind College at Karachi. Here too he got himself involved in trouble when the Principal of the College made an indiscreet remark about Indians being liars. Immediately there was a strike in which Kripalani and his fellow students got their first lesson in political agitation. From 1912 to 1917 he worked as a Professor of English and History at Muzaffarpur College in Bihar. For a short period, he taught at the Benares Hindu University (1919-20) and from 1920 to 1927 he served as the Principal of the Gujarat Vidyapeeth founded by Mahatma Gandhi. From 1927 he became fully engrossed in the Ashram work and in the political movements of the Indian National Congress. It was during his days at the Gujarat Vidyapeeth that he came to be called Acharya.Kripalani first came into contact with Gandhiji in 1917 during the Champaran Satyagraha and that proved to be a turning point in his life. Another turning point in his life was his marriage with Sucheta in 1936. It turned out to be the happiest partnership in life. For nearly four decades there has been the closest understanding between the husband and the wife. From the late twenties Kripalani devoted himself wholly to Congress work. He steadily built up his position in the organization, and from 1934 to 1945 he served as the General Secretary. Content with being a silent worker, during the Congress rift in 1938 over the election of Subhas Chandra Bose as President, Kripalani sided with Gandhi. He took part in all the Congress movements since 1921. During the Quit India movement in 1942 he was arrested and was released along with the other Congress leaders in 1945. He was elected President of the Indian National Congress in November 1946 and steered the organization through the critical days of the transfer of power. In November 1947 he presided over a very crucial meeting of the AICC where he differed sharply from many of his former colleagues. Kripalani insisted on retaining the supremacy of the organizational wing of the Congress over the parliamentary wing, which was resisted by Nehru, Patel and others who were now in the Government. To prevent disharmony and rift within the Congress Kripalani finally tendered his resignation as President, being succeeded by Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Though he remained a member of the Constituent Assembly, Kripalani gradually drifted away from his old comrades until he resigned from the Congress Party itself in 1951. He then started a weekly called the Vigil and a new political party known as the Krishak Mazdoor Praja Party which subsequently merged into the Praja Socialist Party. But in 1954 he resigned from the P.S.P. and became an independent for the rest of his parliamentary life. He helped the Janata Party to victory in 1977 and died soon thereafter, leaving a distinct mark on India's public life. He died on the19th of March 1982, at the age of 94.The country had lost one of its most worthy son and the void created due to his absence will be difficult to fulfill in.Let us pay our humble obeisance's to his lotus feet!

Pride Goes Before Fall-By-Kamlesh Bahukhandi l

.by Kamalesh Bahukhandi on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 4:35pm.

Bloated ego and arrogance has been the root cause of many people falling from grace and pride .Long ago ,when I was small living in an old fashioned bungalow in Chhattisgarh ,a marwadi businessman ,who sold exclusively woven saris ,at a reasonable price visited us . The man was well built, tall and possessed a heavy chest .Dressed immaculately in spotless white dhoti. He use to impose himself upon his customers to buy or else get lost .He had an assistant who carried the load of the packed saris and who was his favourite punching bag..One day ,he came as usual to sell his product and for some reason unknown ,got into an argument with my mom .The argument grew into a verbal duel, with this man throwing veiled threats and raising his voice .My father who was watching on the sidelines ,tried to intervene ,but this bully of a man snubbed him too .Enough was enough and finally we have to tell this bully of a man to leave the house with his load of saris .Before leaving the arrogant man ,with drooling pan on his lips ,and villainish look cursed us and swore of not stepping into the premises again. He marched out ,fuming in anger .However on the person’s repeated plea.I went to see who it was and to my utter surprise and horror it was the same Sariwala ..His entire gait, robust appearance ,that autocratic look and arrogance had vanished .In his place stood a mentally fatigued ,weak and physical wreck, with his drooping posture ,indicating that all was not well .It was quite shocking for us to see the man brought down to his knees by fate ,having lost his sting in life .He appeared to be brutally mauled by destiny .He asked me for a glass of water and something to eat .I made him sit ,brought in water and my mother ,who bore the burn of his unmannerly behaviour on his previous visit , laid a complete meal in a ‘thali’ which I brought and placed it before him .He ate in utter silence .His focus of attention being the food. He did not have courage to look into our faces .After washing his hands he looked up and we saw in him a completely defeated man, who had been reduced to penury .He was in tears and for a moment ,had no words to express .He tried to speak , but the words were garbled .However ,taking courage ,he begged to us to buy atleast one sari .He was alone now ,minus his assistant ,carrying a few saris in a bundle slung on his tired shoulder .My mother bought all the five saris he was carrying as she was fond of the material he used and his designs were also simple and good. .She paid him off .The man got up ,thanked all of us and apologized for his shameless behaviour he had exhibited the last time he had visited us and confided that he had made a grave mistake in not being able to understand my mother. Without looking back , he walked out .But this time his gait appeared light and hurried ,probably lightened by the complete shedding of his burden of guilt that he has been carrying all along .Probably destiny had forced him to come to our house and ask forgiveness, without which he would never have rested in peace .He was never seen again …

Bishwa Nath Singh :
It’s a good write-up. The courtesy and kind words cost nothing to one but pay very rich dividend to him/her. Though, we are living in space age, but the greatest tragedy one comes across that our present generation has started adopting to b...e most discourteous and unkind to others just to show off their supremacy on farce pretext and wrong notion. It is time that our present generation should adopt behavioral change in their attitude towards others and shower all love, affection and respect on them. The forgiveness may be considered simply great who forgives others. Jesus Christ had laid emphasis in the following manner: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. I am happy that merchant who was ill mannered in early days realized his faults later on and exhibited utmost change in his behavior during his next visit and realized his mistake and that is the reason, he was welcome.
