A thunderstorm -By-Kamlesh Bahukhandi

.by Kamlesh Bahukhandi on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 9:48am.

About eight months back I was at Pondicherry .I have always been fascinated by the ocean and its capsizing depth. Hence the first job was to get myself lodged at Arbindo Ashram Guest House which was just on the sea shore. It was a matter of fact room, with all required amenities for life, the best being a big balcony on its second floor, which offered a view of the wide expanse of the Bay of Bengal. The waves always bring about a great emotional turbulence in me. .You realize then, as a how miniscule and helpless you are before their ghastly magnitude.During the night time a storm broke out .The noise of the deafening thunder, the ragging of the waves, their lashing on the big black boulders and the gushing of the wind brought about an atmosphere of total despair and fright. The ferocity and intensity of the water made me realize the futility of the huge ego and pride we nurture. We are nothing when it comes to nature and its fury. The aggressiveness and the upheaval caused by the ruckus made me draw a comparison between the tumults in the external world with the chaos in our inner world. The likeness bewildered me to great extent. The human mind is like an ocean and many storms keep raging up into it. The boiling need for expression can be compared with the gigantic waves which were drowning the entire shoreline.Within moments, the water took a dark shade and acrimony became profound, similar to what we feel when we are in great anguish. .The change of colors symbolizes the change of mood patterns we undergo. The deafening roar of the ocean was like the silent turmoil we suffer. The darkened sky, no birds to fly, no soul on the sly, all draw a simile with an inner gloom. Such is our state at times of “ISCPOM” i.e. ‘Inner Storm-Creation-Programme-Of-Man.I sat like a mute spectator to this natural ‘pathos’. And then while my heart and brain both were at loggerheads for a formidable solution to this situation the miracle occurred. It started raining and it seemed to me as nature’s own way of appearing the heated ambience. The rain drops further increased the amount of water in the ocean, the magnitude of each wave, but the waves seemed to take them as sugar in cup of milk. Though the quantity of milk increased its sweetness was further enriched. Similar, though the quantity of water improved, so did the quality. The rains brought respite to the grim scenario and slowly the storm which was raging seemed to mellow into hiccups and ultimately went off to tiresome sleep. But lo! What about us? When such is our situation, can somebody, someone pour some rain drops (words and acts of affection and love) to take away the inner storm? Can there not be in this world a person who could put atleast a temporary brake on the ongoing tempest within us? Such storms would keep on brewing in the tea cups of all people who are thinkers, emotionally and sentimentally more inclined. Now these ones ,whether they should be appreciated for their rare qualities or should be looked down upon as patients needing psychiatric help, is a matter of great concern rather than a matter of debate. What I feel that inner battles can be won with great ease by learning to treat it the nature’s way. The rains brought total serenity to the raging atmosphere .The waves leant a lesson .They swelled up with more water but their color changed from dark to blue. This change, though subtle, caused a great respite to the entire scene. The ocean’s rage mellowed down and the effect changed the perception of the onlooker. .This can be brought about by a ‘someone’ –a dear and loved one, who really cares. He or she can act as rain drops and wash away the turmoil in your mind. Storms are always going to rake up, be it your inside or out side They are going to destroy ,affect the neighborhood ,make defeating sounds ,cause fear and panic, uproot certain ideas, defeat some purposes ,cause blinding pain, leave bad memories .But for once ,when they die down, nothing and no one can prevent a ‘rehabilitation’ a ‘

One can hardly dare to fight against nature and natural calamities that are unavoidable but certainly can take preventive measures and watch their after effects. Certainly, one can ensure that the process of rehabilitation begins soon after the .atrophy, if any and relief is ensured to reach to genuine person without any narrow considerations.
