A glimpse of Shivaratri as flashed on the f.b. on March 2,2011.

Shivaratri is celebrated on the 13th (or 14th) day of the dark half of Phalgun It falls today i.e. on the 2nd of March 2011. Shivarati literary means the night of Shiva. The entire ceremonies take place chiefly at night. This is a festival observed in honor of Lord Shiva to commemorate his marriage with Parvati that was solemnized on this day. Usually most of us observe a strict fast on this day. Some devotees do not even take a drop of water. They keep vigil all night

Here is the picture of the Shivling seen at the holy shrine of Sri Meenakshi temple in Madurai of India where thousands of devotees worship every day and huge crowd assemble on the eve of Shivaratri to have glimpse of the Shivalingam.Let us offer our humble obeisance to the deity with great devotion and sincerity and seek His bliss for well-being of all living-being of this universe on this auspicious occasion!
