Lest we forget the one who showered love on our path ! - B.N. Singh, Coordinator of Global Peace and Universal Brotherhood..
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sri Satya Sai Baba was born as Sathyanarayana Raju in the small village of Puttaparthi, in Andhra Pradesh of India on November 23,1926. As a child, he had completed his elementary studies at the Elementary School at Bukkapatnam and then joined the high school at Uravakonda. As a child, he demonstrated exemplary qualities of compassion, generosity, and wisdom, which clearly distinguished him from the other children of his village. At Uravakonda, He claimed of being bitten by a scorpion, which nobody could find. As a result of this incident, he went into deep coma. After he came out from coma, he had started behaving in a strange manner, not eating food, reciting ancient shalokas, etc. Finally, at the age of fourteen, he realized His true calling in life and renounced the world. On October 29,1940, at the age of fourteen, he declared to his family and to the people of his village that he would henceforth by known as Sai Baba and that his mission was to bring about the spiritual regeneration of humanity by demonstrating and teaching the highest principles of truth, righteous conduct, peace, and divine love. His mission was further explained and testified in a letter that he had written to his brother in the year 1947. that he has a task ahead to foster all mankind and ensure for all of them lives full of bliss. He has a vow: To lead all who stray away from the straight path again into goodness and save them. He is attached to a work that he loves to remove the sufferings of the poor and grant them what they lack. He was a man of vision and tried his best to translate his dreams and vision into reality. His ashram, built by his devotees close to the village where he was born, was inaugurated on November 23, 1950. on his twenty fifth Birth Anniversarythat was named as Prasanthi Nilayam (the Abode of Divine Peace). It has been the real gathering place of millions of spiritual pilgrims of various faiths from all over the world visit to have a look of it and listen discourses delivered by great saints. Every day, Sai Baba use to walk graciously amidst them to guide, comfort, console, and uplift them. This small temple that was dedicated in 1950 has grown into a spiritual centre of unprecedented magnitude. The temple and the darshan area in front of it, which is completely covered by a beautiful roof, together encompass an area that is over ten thousand square yards. During the period November 14,1995 to November 23,1995, the celebrations of the Seventieth Birth Anniversary of Sathya Sai Baba was held in Prasanthi Nilayam with great festivity and fervor. More than one million people, including the President and Prime Minister of India, had assembled in Prasanthi Nilayam to pay tribute to Sathya Sai Baba during his Seventieth Birth Anniversary celebrations. It has been revealed in the Chapter 31 of Sathya Sai Speaks volume 1 that during a discourse on September 29, 1960 Sathya Sai Baba had said that he will be in this mortal human form for fifty nine years more and he shall certainly achieve the purpose of this avatar; do not doubt it. He will take his own time to carry out his Plan so far as we are concerned. He cannot hurry because we are hurrying. He may sometimes wait until he can achieve ten things at one stroke; just as an engine is not used to haul one coach, but waits until sufficient haulage in proportion to its capacity is ready. But his Word will never fail; it must happen as he will.Sathya Sai Baba’s seven manifesto teachings are still in our mind and thoughts that he used to preach us that can be reproduced as follows: (!) The devotion of a person towards a particular religion is more important the religion itself. (2)No religion is superior and no religion is inferior. (3)We should respect the religions of one other. (4)The country in which you stay should be respected and honored. (5)There is only one God in this world, His names may be different. (6)The service towards the poor, the needy and the sick should be without expectation of any return and (7)Truth, divine love, right conduct, good behavior, peace and non-violence are the values to be followed in everyday life. A well known travel writer and self-described `spiritual nomad' Bill Aitken had summarized as why so many royalty, wealthy industrialists, influential politicians, as well as the poor—flock to Puttaparthi and he had summed up in one word: love. It is as simple as it is profound, not unlike how his devotees see the Sai himself—the embodiment of deep spirituality wedded to simplicity, elegance and grace.Yet, the Sai phenomenon is less about producing vibhuti from thin air and more about modern-day miracles. Miracles like free schools and universities, super-specialty hospitals which provide free treatment to all and revolutionary projects like the one which has brought drinking water to a million villagers in drought-prone Rayalseema.Aitken's study was neither a hagiographic exercise in myth-making nor a dry, objective account of the Sai's life. While never shy of expressing his deep love and reverence for Sai Baba, he squarely confronts the controversies and criticisms which inevitably dog those who claim acquaintance with the holy. In true sense, Sathya Sai Baba was an institution in himself and an incarnation of His Holiness Sathya Sai Ram of Shirdi who had spread message of love and tried his best to bring unity amongst Hindu and Muslim by preaching the concept of one God to them that Sathya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi had also advocated all throughout his life. Sathya Sai Baba had himself said as mentioned earlier that he would die at the age of Ninety six and would remain healthy until then. After 2005, he used a wheelchair and his failing health forced him to make fewer public appearances. In 2006, he suffered a fractured hip when a student standing on an iron stool slipped, and both the boy and stool fell on him. After that, he gave darshan from a car or on his portal chair. Sathya Sai Baba was suddenly taken ill and was rushed up and admitted to Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences at Ananatpur very close to about three Kms. away from his southern Indian ashram -Puttaparthi on March 28,2011, following respiration-related problems. After nearly a month of hospitalization, during which his condition progressively deteriorated and after being on ventilator support for many days with all his vital parameters failing, Sai Baba died of cardio-respiratory failure Sai Baba died on April 24,2011 at 7:40 A.M.(IST) at the age of about eighty five. His passing away was condoled by most of us living far and wide. His dead body was kept for darshan ( glimpse) for two days in the premises of Prashant Nilayam. The many dignitaries from different parts of the world had poured in to have his last glimpse. The Prime Minister of India, UPA Chairperson, several Governors and Chief Ministers of different States, many Union Ministers of Govt. Of India had visited Puttaparthi to lay their wrath on the dead body of Sathya Sai Baba. The Government of Karnataka had declared 25 and 26 April as days of mourning and Andhra Pradesh declared 25, 26 and 27 April as days of mourning. His last rites was performed by his nephew who is also a trustee amidst chanting of Vedic mantras. All religion prayers were also held there by their religious leaders. His Mahasamdhi ( final burial) was given at the Sai Kulwant hall of Puttaparthi in the morning of April 27,2011 where He used to give His darshan ( glimpse/audience) to His disciples and followers in the past. He will be always adored and cherished as godly man for his social-service for cause of humanity who lived and died for well-being of people at large. While nearly half of the ceremony amid the chanting of Vedic hymns was open to those present in the hall, the burial was performed by only a handful of close relatives and disciples in the presence of a group of priests.Baba's nephew who is also a trustee R.J. Ratnakar performed rituals like the sprinkling of holy water on the mortal remains under the guidance of a priest. Later, the Godman was laid to rest in a 3ft by 6 ft by 4.5 feet deep pit at a private ceremony behind curtains.Christian, Muslim, Buddhist and Jewish priests read out their respective scriptures before the rituals began around 9 A.M.(IST) on April 27,2011 A group of disciples of Tibetan Buddhist leader Dalai Lama also attended the last rites, which were performed with full state honors guard of honor was given by policemen who came in slow march and draped the national flag on the transparent casket, before the body was moved for the burial. The buglers sounded the Last Post and policemen fired three shots in a gun salute outside the hall. A general salute was also offered by the men in uniform. After an hour-long burial ceremony, the curtains were moved to enable VIPs to sprinkle sacred ash on the grave and pay their respects. The Indian Prime Minister Dr. Man Mohan Singh, UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh Chief Ministers, and several Governors and Union Ministers apart from various other political leaders, celebrities and intellectuals were in attendance through the last rites. Around five lakh people were estimated to have attended his burial and paid their last respects to Sathya Sai Baba with their moist eyes.. Let us join to pay our humble obeisance to His lotus feet and pay our respectful homage and floral tribute to Him who will be remembered and cherished for ever and remain alive in our heart and thoughts!
