He had pioneered temperance and temple entry movements in India and advocated Dalit upliftment. Critics have often attributed his pre-eminence in politics to his being a favorite of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. He served as the Premier of the Madras Presidency, Governor of West Bengal, Minister for Home Affairs of the Indian Union and Chief Minister of Madras state. They did not had lust for anything as they use to remain contended with what they had with them. As we are living in space age, almost... every thing that were prevalent in olden days have gone under various changes. Now, people are not contended with what they have rather they have been hankering and aspiring for more & more.
