A short story: “Benevolence pays rich dividend” by Bishwa Nath Singh.

A college going young girl who was studious had a dream in preceding early morning talking to God and playing with Him. When she was waked up her mom, her dream was shattered. But, she had feeling of oneness with Him as if she was known to God personally from time immemorial. When she went to college, narrated her woes to her bosom friend who called it all rubbish & scolded her not to be extrovert.. But, when she returned to her home, she had a feeling as if something is missing and that made us very upset for the whole night. She remained awake all throughout the night and did not even do her home work. Next day, when she got up, she finally decided to move out secretly and proceed ahead in search of God. She was so curious that she did not wait for a moment. She changed her dress & took a bag full of salted biscuits, potato chips & a couple of bottles of Coke and packed up in a bag with few of her clothes & some money and walked out from her house in search of God. She was aware that it is going to be long trip to where God lived. So, after packing her bag with few of her clothes, a packet full of Salted Biscuits packet of potato chips and a couple of bottles of Coke, she started her journey to God. All the time, she was thinking as how fast she can move to reach to her destination though unknown. She kept on going for the whole forenoon. In the afternoon when the sun was scorching, she wanted to take some rest & have some refreshments. Hardly, she might have covered three Kilometers, she noticed an old man sitting in the Park watching birds. The girl sat down next to him and opened her bag. She took out packet of salted biscuits and when she was going to eat & take coke, she noticed that the old man looked hungry. So, she offered him some salted biscuits. He accepted it gracefully and smiled at that young lady conveying his gratefulness. His facial expression & smile was so gentle & pretty that the young girl wanted to see it again & again, so she offered him some Potato Chips & Coco-cola. Again, he smiled at her. The girl was delighted. They sat in the Park watching birds whole afternoon eating & smiling without telling a word to each other. As evening approached, the young girl realized as how tired she was by covering such long distance. She got up hurriedly to leave, but hardy, she had gone few steps, she turned around and ran back to the old man and gave him a hug as if she is meeting her own father who is in heaven. He gave her biggest smile ever. Now, she decided to return to her house. When she knocked the door, her mom came to open the door and she was surprised to see her looking very cheerful with radiant face Her mom was really very surprised by the look on her face. She asked her as what she did today and so long, where she had you been .She very smilingly replied that she had lunch with God today and that is why her joy knew no bound. But before his mother could respond, she added that you do not know what? He got the most beautiful smile I have ever come across & seen in my life. Meanwhile, the old man radiant with joy returned to his home. His son was stunned by the look of peace on his face and he questioned his father as what did you do today that made you so happy? He quickly replied that he ate potato chips & salted biscuits and took Coke in the park with God. However, before his son could respond. he added, that do you know that he is much younger than I had thought of Him Often, we underestimate the power of touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. Many people come across into our lives but what is the harm if we could shower love & affection on them as if they are our own. We must remember that all of us are children of God .It is hard core fact that we must accept humbly and if it so, where is the point to go for waging war against other. The love & passion in one’s life have the potential to turn a life around Often People from all walks of lives come & go in one’s life, they must be embraced equally One should always remember an old saying that service to man is service to God that hold good even now & then.
