Barack Obama was born at Kapi'olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961. His mother was Stanley Ann Dunham, and his father was Obama Sr. Barack was born of biracial heritage, as his mother was of predom...inantly English descent, while his father was from Kenya. They had met in 1960 while taking a class together at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The two married on February 2, 1961, and Barack was born later that same year. When he was two years old, his parents separated, and they were divorced in 1964. His father remarried and went back to Kenya, where he had two more sons, Mark and David Ndesandjo. Barack only saw his father one more time before he died in a car accident in 1982.Meanwhile, Barack's mother had married an Indonesian student, Lolo Soetoro after her divorce. In Indonesia, a military leader came to power in 1967, and he recalled all Indonesian students who were studying abroad. The family then moved to Indonesia. From the ages of six to ten, Obama went to schools in Jakarta, which include St. Francis of Assisi School and Besuki Public School. In 1971, Obama went back to Hawaii to live with his mother's parents, Stanley Armour and Madelyn Dunham. There he attended Punahou School, which was a private college prep school, from fifth grade until he graduated in 1979. In 1972, Obama's mother came back to Hawaii and stayed there until 1977 when she went back to Indonesia to work in anthropology. In 1994, she returned to Hawaii and lived there for one year until she died of ovarian cancer. In 1979, Obama moved to Los Angeles in 1979 where he attended Occidental College. He then transferred to Columbia University in 1981 in New York City where he received his major in political science and a specialization in international relations. He received a B.A. in 1983 from the college. For one year, he worked at the Business International Corporation, and then he worked at the New York Public Interest Research Group. After spending four years in New York City, Barack moved to Chicago, and he got a job as director of the Developing Communities Project, which was a church-based community organization that included eight Catholic parishes in Greater Roseland. He worked as a community organizer from June of 1985 until May of 1988. While director, his staff grew from one to thirteen and his overall budget increased from $70,000 to $400,000. Here he set up a job training program, a tutoring program for college preparation, and Altgeld Gardens, a tenants' rights organization. He was also an instructor and consultant for a community organizing institute called the Gamaliel Foundation. In the middle of 1988, Obama visited Europe for three weeks and then spent five weeks in Kenya. While in Kenya, he was able to meet relatives of his father for the first time ever. He went back to Kenya in 2006 in order to visit the birthplace of his father, which was a village near Kisuma in the rural area of western Kenya. In 1988, Obama began attending law school at Harvard Law School. He was chosen as editor of the Harvard Law Review at the conclusion of his first year, as well as the president of the journal during his second year. In the summer, he went back to Chicago and worked as a summer associate at Sidley Austin or Hopkins & Sutter law firms. He graduated from Harvard in 1991 and returned to Chicago. because he was elected as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review, he received media attention. Barack Obama has a very multi-racial family. He has seven half siblings from his father in Kenya, and he also has a half sister, Maya Soetor-Ng, who shares his mother, but is the daughter his mother's Indonesian second husband. Obama was very close with his maternal grandparents, and his grandmother lived until November 2, 2008, just two days prior to his election to the Presidency. In June of 1989, Obama met Michelle Robinson when he was employed at the Chicago law firm of Sidley Austin. She initially declined his requests for dates, but Obama was persistent and they became engaged in 1991. They were married on October 3, 1992. They have two daughters, Malia Ann, born on July 4, 1998, and Natasha "Sasha" born on June 10, 2001. They attended the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools until they moved to Washington and began to attend the Sidwell Friends School.Barack Obama also taught constitutional law from 1992 until 2004 at the University of Chicago Law School. From 1997 until 2004, Obama served three terms in the Senate of Illinois. He attempted to win a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, but he was unsuccessful. In 2000, he ran for Senator of Illinois, and he was elected. At the Democratic National Convention in July of 2004, Obama gave a televised keynote address, and it thrust him into the spotlight. Obama announced that he would run for president of the United States. In February of 2007, he began his campaign. He had a very close campaign, but eventually won the Democratic Presidential Primary against Hillary Clinton, and he won the nomination of his party. In the 2008 Presidential election, he defeated the Republican nominee John McCain and was inaugurated as the new president on January 20, 2009. On October 9, 2009,he was rewarded with the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. Let us pay our tribute to him and his wife and wish them all the best in their life!
