Rekha was born as Banurekha Ganesan on the 10th of October 1954 in Chennai in Tamil Nadu, State of India. She is the illegitimate daughter of Gemini Ganesan, an outstanding Tamil actor and Pushpavalli, an actress. She has seven sisters and one brother. She is known widely for her versatility and acknowledged as one of the finest actresses of Hindi movies of our Bollywood. She had started her career in 1966 as a child artist in the Telugu movie Rangula Ratnam, though her film debut as a lead happened four years later with Sawan Bhadon in 1970. Despite the success of several of her early films it was not until the mid-to-late 1970s that she got recognition as an great artist as an actress. Since the 1970s she has been featured as in the Indian media. in mostly in sex scenes.She has acted in over one hundred eighty films in her filmy career that has spanned over long forty years. Throughout her career, she often played roles in female-oriented movies and took part in both Indian mainstream and art cinema, known in India as parallel cinema. She has achieved commercial success, as well as critical praise for numerous performances. She has won three Filmfare Awards, two for Best Actress and one for Best Supporting Actress, for her roles in Khubsoorat in 1980, Khoon Bhari Maang in 1988 and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi in 1996 respectively. Her portrayal of a classical courtesan in Umrao Jaan won her the National Film Award for Best Actress. Though her career has gone through certain periods of decline, she has reinvented herself numerous times and has been credited for her ability to sustain her status She had acted in many movies together with Amitavbh Bachan who was supposed to be very close to her as as her friend.. There was speculations that she was married to an actor Vinod Mehra in 1973 whom she later divorced but she has blatantly denied having married with Vinod Mehra. She had married Mukesh Agarwal, a businessman from Delhi in 1990 who had committed suicide a year later. She is currently living in Bandra, Mumbai all alone spending her time in practicing many yogic excercises. Her acting has been unbeatable in Bollywood.She has beautiful eyes and a very charming face who has the husky smoldering voice to match her looks. She is still going strong with movies like Lajja, Zubeida etc . that we had seen few years ago. Let us join to wish her all the best in her long and happy life!
