A tribute to the fifth Guru of Sikhism-Guru Arjan Dev as flashed on the f.b. on April 9,2011.

Bishwa Nath Singh

Guru Arjan Dev was the fifth Guru of Sikhism who will be remembered for ever for construction of Holy Golden temple at Amritsar amidst Sarovar and for his firm belief in equality with people belonging to other faiths .He had ensured that the foundation stone of the holy shrine was laid down by a great Muslim saint of that perio...d named Mian Mir.The temple had featured four entrances to represent access to all communities. He had honor to compile the Adi Granth Ji- the Sikh scripture containing the writings of all the four Gurus of the past until that time. Enduring five days of unrelenting torture, he became martyr at the hands of seventeenth century fundamentalist Muslim rulers who sought to put an end to the spread of Sikhism. His martyrdom set an inspiring example of selflessness and steadfast courage in the face of overwhelming oppression.
