Full text of US President's speech::
Good evening. Tonight I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who is responsible for the murder of thousands... of innocent men, women and children.
It was nearly 10 years ago that a bright September day was darkened by the worst attack on the American people in our history. The images of 9/11 are seared into our national memory. Hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless September sky, the Twin Towers collapsing to the ground, black smoke billowing up from the Pentagon, the wreckage of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where the actions of heroic citizens saved even more heartbreak and destruction. And yet, we know that the worst images are those that were unseen to the world, the empty seat at the dinner table, children who were forced to grow up without their mother or their father, parents who would never know the feeling of their child's embrace. Nearly 3,000 citizens taken from us, leaving a gaping hole in our hearts. On September 11, 2001 in our time of grief, the American people came together. We offered our neighbors a hand, and we offered the wounded our blood. We reaffirmed our ties to each other, and our love of community and country. On that day, no matter where we came from, what god we prayed to, or what race or ethnicity we were, we were united as one American family. We were also united in our resolve to protect our nation and to bring those who committed this vicious attack to justice. We quickly learned that the 9/11 attacks were carried out by al Qaeda, an organization headed by Osama bin Laden, which had openly declared war on the United States and was committed to killing innocence in our country and around the globe. And so we went to war against al Qaeda, to protect our citizens, our friends and our allies. Over the last ten years, thanks to the tireless and heroic work of our military and our counterterrorism professionals, we've made great strides in that effort. We've disrupted terrorist attacks and strengthened our homeland defense. In Afghanistan, we removed the Taliban government which had given bin Laden and al Qaeda safe haven and support. And around the globe, we've worked with our friends and allies to capture or kill scores of al Qaeda terrorists, including several who were a part of the 9/11 plot.Yet, Osama bin Laden avoided capture and escaped across the Afghan border into Pakistan. Meanwhile, al Qaeda continued to operate from along that border and operate through its affiliates across the world. And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle and defeat his network. Then last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside Pakistan. And finally last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice.Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body. For over two decades, bin Laden has been al Qaeda's leader and symbol and has continued to plot attacks against our country and our friends and allies. The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation's effort to defeat al Qaeda.Yet his death does not mark the end of our effort. There's no doubt that al Qaeda will continue to pursue attacks against us. We must and we will remain vigilant at home and abroad. As we do, we must also reaffirm that the United States is not and never will be at war with Islam. I’ve made clear, just as President Bush did shortly after 9/11, that our war is not against Islam, because bin Laden was not a Muslim leader. He was a mass murderer of Muslims. Indeed, al Qaeda has slaughtered scores of Muslims in many countries, including our own. So his demise should be welcomed by all who believe in peace and human dignity.Over the years, I have repeatedly made clear that we would take action within Pakistan if we knew where bin Laden was. That is what we've done. But it's important to note that our counterterrorism cooperation with Pakistan helped lead us to bin Laden and the compound where he was hiding. Indeed, bin Laden had declared war against Pakistan as well and ordered attacks against the Pakistani people.Tonight, I called President Zardari, and my team has also spoken with their Pakistani counterparts. They agree that this is a good and historic day for both of our nations. And going forward, it is essential that Pakistan continue to join us in the fight against al Qaeda and its affiliates. The American people did not choose this fight. It came to our shores and started with the senseless slaughter of our citizens. After nearly ten years of service, struggle and sacrifice, we know well the costs of war. These efforts weigh on me every time I, as commander-in-chief, have to sign a letter to a family that has lost a loved one, or look into the eyes of a service member who's been gravely wounded. So Americans understand the costs of war. Yet, as a country, we will never tolerate our security being threatened, nor stand idly by when our people have been killed. We will be relentless in defense of our citizens and our friends and allies. We will be true to the values that make us who we are.And on nights like this one, we can say to those families who have lost loved ones to al Qaeda's terror: Justice has been done.Tonight we give thanks to the countless intelligence and counterterrorism professionals who have worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome. The American people do not see their work or know their names, but tonight they feel the satisfaction of their work and the result of their pursuit of justice. We give thanks for the men who carried out this operation, for they exemplify the professionalism, patriotism and unparalleled courage of those who serve our country. And they're a part of the generation that has borne the heaviest share of the burden since that September day. Finally, let me say to the families who lost loved ones on 9/11 that we have never forgotten your loss, nor wavered in our commitment to see that we do whatever it takes to prevent another attack on our shores. And tonight, let us think back to the sense of unity that prevailed on 9/11. I know that it has, at times, frayed. Yet today's achievement is a testament to the greatness of our country and the determination of the American people. The cause of securing our country is not complete, but tonight we are once again reminded that America can do whatever we set our mind to. That is the story of our history, whether it's the pursuit of prosperity for our people, or the struggle for equality for all our citizens, our commitment to stand up for our values abroad, and our sacrifices to make the world a safer place. Let us remember that we can do these things, not just because of wealth or power, but because of who we are: One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The most intense manhunt in history of the world finally killed Osama bin Laden during the night of May 1,2011 by US forces in Abbotabad city of Pakistan where he was hiding in a well-built mason with his family close to Pakistan Military Academy. He was widely considered in the West as the personification of evil though Osama bin Laden was admired and even revered by handful of some Muslims who had embraced his vision of unending jihad against the United States and Arab governments as he was being deemed as one of the greatest leader of terrorism.

Osama bin Laden's money and preaching inspired the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre of New York and Pentagon that had taken toll of over three thousand people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, and foreve...r ripped a hole in U.S. feeling of security in the world. His actions set off a chain of events that led the United States into wars in Afghanistan, and then Iraq, and a clandestine war against extreme Islamic adherents that touched scores of countries on every continent but Antarctica. America's entire intelligence apparatus was overhauled to counter the threat of more terror attacks at home.Osama bin Laden, founder of Al Queda was killed in an operation led by the United States on May 1,2011 in the city of Abbotabad of Pakistan as the US President Barack Obama had said in his telecast on Sunday the 1st of May 2011. A small team of Americans carried out the attack and took custody of Osama bin Laden's remains. He had said that Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed on Sunday in a firefight with U.S. forces in Pakistan and his body was recovered, Osama bin Laden's death is a significant victory for the United States. But it is more symbolic than concrete. "The world had already moved beyond Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda. Operationally al Qaeda's command and control had been crippled and their top leaders had either been arrested or killed. "There are no more than three hundred members of al Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan, according to Western intelligence.More importantly al Qaeda has lost the struggle for hearts and minds in the Arab world and elsewhere and has had trouble attracting followers and skilled recruits. "Now, the Arab revolutions have dealt a fatal blow to al Qaeda's ideology. The Arab revolutions had exposed al Qaeda's irrelevance to the concrete challenges facing Arab societies. Osama bin Laden's death delivered a powerful message to terrorist groups that they cannot defeat the US, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared on Monday, the 2nd of May 2011. Saying it proves America's unwavering commitment in the war on terror, Clinton said at the State Department that the message to the Taliban 'remains the same, but on Monday, it may have even greater resonance. 'You cannot wait us out, you cannot defeat us, but you can make the choice to abandon Al Qaeda and participate in a peaceful political process. 'There is no better rebuke to Al Qaeda and its heinous ideology,' she said, asking America to stay focused in its battle against global terrorism. It is true that for survivors of militant attacks and relatives of those killed and wounded, the killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden brought a sense of relief, and even some joy, after years of pain and grief.Americans poured on to the street to celebrate bin Laden's death at the hands of U.S. forces and people around the world expressed relief that the mastermind behind a series of high-profile attacks was dead.Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the most devastating attack on American soil in modern times and the most hunted man in the world, was killed in a firefight with United States forces in Pakistan on Sunday, President Obama announced. In a dramatic late-night appearance in the East Room of the White House, Mr. Obama declared that "justice has been done" as he disclosed that American military and C.I.A. operatives had finally cornered the Al Qaeda leader who had eluded them for nearly a decade and shot him to death at a compound in Pakistan. "For over two decades, Bin Laden has been Al Qaeda's leader and symbol," the US President said in a statement carried on television around the world. "The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation's effort to defeat Al Qaeda. But his death does not mark the end of our effort." He added: "We must and we will remain vigilant at home and abroad." The death of Mr. Bin Laden is a defining moment in the American-led war on terrorism. What remains to be seen is whether the death of the leader of Al Qaeda galvanizes his followers by turning him into a martyr, or whether it serves as a turning of the page in the war in Afghanistan and gives further impetus to the Obama administration to bring American troops home.India as whole has hailed the news of killing of Osama bin Laden. One must always bear in mind that bad deeds never deliver any good to any one.

Let us strive hard to bring awareness amongst people to spread round the world to come forward to contain terrorism which is one of the greatest menaces to peace, progress and all-round development of mankind as whole!
Terrorism is defined as acts of violence committed by groups that view themselves as victimized by some notable historical wrong. Although these groups have no formal connection with Governments, they usually have the financial and moral backing of sympa...thetic Governments. Typically, they stage unexpected attacks on civilian targets, including embassies and airliners, with the aim of sowing fear and confusion. We had seen that Israel was a frequent target of terrorism, but the United States has increasingly become its main target and suffered lot due to terrorist activities of September 11,2001 attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York and the Pentagon of USattacks on the World Trade Centre in New York and the Pentagon of US when they had attacked the World Trade Centre in New York and the Pentagon of US killing over three thousand Americans thus we see that unlawful use or threat especially against the state or pubic as a politically motivated means of coercion. It can be safely called as violent and intimidating gang activities of terrorism. Some definitions also include acts of unlawful violence and war. The use of similar tactics by criminal organizations for protection rackets or to enforce a code of silence is usually not labeled terrorism though these same actions may be labeled terrorism when done by a politically motivated group. The word terrorism is politically and emotionally charged and this greatly compounds the difficulty of providing a precise definition. The concept of terrorism may itself be controversial as it is often used by state authorities to de-legitimize political or other opponents and potentially legitimize the state's own use of armed force against opponents. Terrorism has been practiced by a broad array of political organizations for furthering their objectives. It has been practiced by both the right and left wing of political parties, nationalistic groups, religious groups, revolutionaries, and ruling Governments. An abiding characteristic is the indiscriminate use of violence against noncombatants for the purpose of gaining publicity for a group, cause, or individual. It is a bit unfortunate that India has been facing hostilities from our neighboring countries since independence. Pakistan since its creation has always harbored terrorist elements against India with an intention to destabilize our country. China supports Pakistan in their endeavor to divide India. We face threats from Bangladesh and from Sri Lanka in the South. Since we have open borders with Nepal, terrorists use Nep both as easy entry and exit points. Our borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh are porous and not fully sealed. We face trouble on the North -East side with China troubling Arunachal Pradesh. These countries hobnob with these terrorists and have helped them to establish their bases from where they can carry out their evil acts. It has been seen very often that almost all the expertise for planting bombs on soft targets and sophisticated arms and ammunitions come from these countries. As everything is not possible to be do from these foreign bases., so they take advantage of the unemployed youth and others who fall easy prey to their indoctrination and create local groups to ferment trouble in most of cities of our India. They take help from some political disgruntled leaders and corrupt officials who provide easy assess for their entry and exit from India. One should be clear in their mind that most of Muslims are very good and they are not terrorists as all Muslims can’t be taken as terrorists. . Hindus have stopped fulminating against terror despite the heavy toll it takes each time. For these terrorists who are invisible, they have no Agenda. They do it in the name of Jihad or some linguistic or religious cause, which a common man does not identify himself with. So Terrorism is not about Muslims only and their quest for Jihad. Not all Muslims are terrorists and not all terrorists are Muslims. India's over one hundred forty million Muslims are a salutary negation of the facile thesis about Islam's incompatibility with democracy. The terrorists that we encounter today are not men who commit evil acts out of revenge. For these men indoctrinated by outfits like the Al Qaeda and the Dawood gangs, terrorism is a full fledged profession. The cold blooded killers often reported to accomplish their tasks with clinical precision.. They did it because it was a job they wanted to do may be due to unemployment and allurement of money. Only few Muslims believe that these phonies are fighting for any cause but their own. Hindus have stopped fulminating against terror despite the heavy toll it takes each time. For these terrorists who are invisible, they have no Agenda. They do it in the name of Jihad or some linguistic or religious cause, which a common man does not identify himself with. Our democratic politics, political freedoms, civil liberties and religious tolerance must be protected at all costs .Poverty is a curse and that incubates terrorism being root cause of corruption. It breeds the naxalites for wrong doing and nefarious activities and the local terrorist groups. The Government needs to be tough in implementing reforms to maintain rapid economic growth and uplift the status of its downtrodden people. India's terrorism problem is largely specific to Kashmir. There is a difference between terrorists and freedom fighters and one should not equate them. India must muster International support in this issue and put pressure on Pakistan to stop supporting these terrorists. India habitually points fingers at Pakistan which is the hotbed and the epicenter of terrorism all around the world. But merely pointing fingers will not help matters. Pakistan though being a small country is seemingly able to infiltrate groups of Indians and recruit them to the terrorist's cause indicates failures of the intelligence on the other hand. India needs to be tough but not reactionary to the causes of terrorism at all cost by miss utilizing foreign aids. One must be very clear in his/her mind that terrorism retard peace and progress of a country and that must be contained if need arises very ruthlessly. The telecast of US President Barack Obama that he had addressed to his nation in the night of May 1,2011 regarding killing of the founder leader of Al Qaeda Osama bin Laden by US forces in Abbotabad city of Pakistan where he was hiding in a well-built mason with his family close to Pakistan Military Academy and Girls’ Medical College. Was received with joy leaving question mark as how that great terrorist was allowed to stay in Pakistan when their leaders often use to deny his presence in Pakistan and that too nearly two kms. away from Military Academy in a well-buit mason. Now, the mystery remains unsolved whether Osama was given shelter knowingly by Pakistan to keep alive terrorism in its neighboring countries like Indiae to military centre of Pakistan How could a such a hard core terrorist leader could stay near a military academy unless he was given due security!. One should not feel jubilant on killing of Osama unless his all accomplishes and theory of terrorism preached and guided by him is counteracted and contained fully. Terrorism is no longer a local problem of specific countries but an issue involving a number of international aspects. Terrorist organizations may perpetrate attacks in a variety of countries; the victims of attacks can be of different nationalities; the offices, headquarters, and training camps of terrorist organizations function in various countries; terrorist organizations receive direct and indirect assistance from different states, enlist support from different ethnic communities, and secure financial help throughout the world. Since terrorism is an international phenomenon, responses to terrorism must also be on an international scale.Let us strive hard to bring awareness amongst people to spread round the world to come forward to contain terrorism which is one of the greatest menace to peace, progress and all-round development of mankind as whole!
