Let us join to pay our floral tribute to one great personality of our country who has been a great Indian statesman and had honor to serve as the eleventh Prime Minister of India from May 16 1996 to June I, 1996 and fourteenth Prime Minister of India March 19, 1998 to May 22, ,2004 after a brief stint as Prime Minister of India a...nd Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha during the year 1996 to 1997 and Union Minister of External Affairs of India during March 1997 to 1979 in Morar Ji Bhai Desai’s Cabinet and remained as the Member of Parliament from Lucknow Parliamentary Constituency until 2009, and since retired from active politics.! He is none else than Atal Bihari Vajpayee known for his passion, wisdom ,patriotism, oratory and able administrator ship besides being a very well reputed Parliamentarian. Let us pay our humble obeisance’s to his lotus feet and pray for his good health , long , & peaceful life!

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former Prime Minister of India, is a man of towering & multi faceted political personality who was born on December 25, 1924, at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh State of India to parents Krishna Bihari Vajpayee, a s...chool teacher and Krishna Dev , a house-hold religious lady.. He was educated at Victoria alias Laxmibai College, Gwalior and D.A.V. College, Kanpur and holds a Postgraduate degree in Political Science. His entry in national politics had begun during his student days, when he joined the Quit India Movement of 1942 which hastened the end of British colonial rule. A student of political science and law, it was in college that he developed a keen interest in foreign affairs, an interest he has nourished over the years and put to skilful use while representing India at various multilateral and bilateral international meet. For a while he had studied law, but during midstream he chose to become a journalist. This choice was largely influenced by the fact that as a student he had been an activist in India's struggle for freedom. Movement. His career in journalism was cut short in 1951 when he joined Bharatiya Jana Sangh. As a founder-member of the Jana Sangh, 1951-1977 later known as Bharatiya Janatha Party , he had honor to served as the Party's President that took it to new heights. He served as THE President of BJP for the first five years of its existence, laying the foundation for the party's awesome growth in the last one decade. As a parliamentarian, he was elected to the Lok Sabha nine times and to the Rajya Sabha twice. He is the only parliamentarian elected from four different States at different times namely UP, Gujarat, MP and Delhi. He had served as the Union External Affairs Minister in the Morarji Desai Cabinet from 1977 to 1979. During this tenure, he also became the first person to deliver a speech to the United Nations General Assembly in Hindi (in 1977), the "most unforgettable" moment in his life by his own admission He was elected to various positions including Prime Minister and Leader of Opposition (1993), Lok Sabha; Chairperson of a number of parliamentary committees. He served as Prime Minister for a short stint in 1996. Later on March 19, 1998, he took charge as Prime Minister of India and again on October 13, 1999 for the second consecutive term as the head of a new coalition government, the National Democratic Alliance. He is the only Prime Minister since Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to have become Prime Minister of India through three successive mandates. Apart from politics, he had participated in various social and cultural activities.. He has many literary and artistic accomplishments to his credit. He is well known as a great lover for poetry. He is an eloquent speaker; He is also known to be a voracious reader. He edited many Journals & Periodicals and authored many books & magazines. Though, he is a bachelor but he was a family person.. He finds time to spend with his adopted daughters Namita and Neharika in between his hectic schedules. He is very fond of Indian music and dance. He has been widely acknowledged as one of the great tatesman of our country.He loves nature and one of his favorite retreats is Manali in Himachal Pradesh. He was conferred with our country’s second highest civilian honor, the Padma Vibhushan in 1992 in recognition of his selfless dedication to his first and only love, India, and his more than half-a-century of service to society and the nation. In 1994, he was named India's 'Best Parliamentarian'. Over the decades, he has emerged as a national leader who has mass appeal and commands respect for his liberal worldview and commitment to democratic ideals. Kargil invasion were countered & rescued during his regime. In late 1998 and early 1999, Vajpayee began a push for a full-scale diplomatic peace process with Pakistan. With the historic inauguration of the Delhi-Lahore bus service in February 1999. On December 13, 2001, a group of masked, armed men with fake IDs stormed the Parliament building in Delhi. The terrorists managed to kill several security guards, but the building was sealed off swiftly and security forces cornered and killed the men, who were later proven to be Pakistan nationals. Coming just three months after the September 11 attacks upon the United States, this fresh escalation instantly enraged the nation. Although the Government of Pakistan officially condemned the attack.He had served on a number of important Committees of Parliament. In May 1998, India conducted five underground nuclear tests in Pokhran, Rajasthan. The five tests shocked and surprised the world, especially considering that the government had been in power for only a month. Two weeks later, Pakistan responded with its own nuclear weapon tests, making it the newest declared nation with nuclear weapons. In late 2002 and 2003,during his able leadership of the country, the Union Government pushed economic reforms, and the country's GDP growth accelerated at record levels, exceeding 6-7%. Increasing foreign investment, modernization of public and industrial infrastructure, the creation of jobs, a rising high-tech and IT industry and urban modernization and expansion improved the nation's national image. Good crop harvests and strong industrial expansion also helped the economy. The Government reformed the tax system, increased the pace of reforms and pro-business initiatives, major irrigation and housing schemes and so on. The political energies of the BJP shifted to the rising urban middle-class and young people, who were positive and enthusiastic about the major economic expansion and future of the country. A national crisis had copped up on December 24, 1999, when Indian Airlines flight (IC 814) en-route Kathmandu to New Delhi was hijacked by five Pakistani terrorists and flown to Taliban ruled Afghanistan. The hijackers made several demands including the release certain Kashmiri terrorists like Maulana Masood Azhar, from prison. The government ultimately caved in and bowed down to meet their demands to release them in view of People sentiments to save all passengers on board. He oversaw his National Highway Development Project and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana begin construction, in which he took a personal interest.In March 2000 Bill Clinton, the President of the United States, paid a state visit to India. His was the first state visit to India by a US President in twenty two years. President Clinton's visit to India was hailed as a significant milestone in the relations between the two countries.. The Indian Prime Minister and the U.S. President discussed strategic issues, but the chief achievement was a significant expansion in trade and economic ties. The Historic Vision Document on the future course of relations between the two countries was signed by Prime Minister Vajpayee and President Clinton during the visit.He was also conferred the Lokmanya Tilak Puruskar and the Bharat Ratna Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant Award for the Best Parliamentarian, both in 1994. Kanpur University honored him with an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in 1993.He is a man of great vision with full of passion & wisdom.Though, he has virtually retired as active politician on his health ground but still, he continues to be guiding force for the destiny of the nation. Let us pay our floral tribute to him on the eve of his Birth Anniversary and wish him good health and long life! He will be remembered as the most successful Politician & statesman.!
