A respectful homage & floral tribute to Dr.Sampurnanand ,formerly Chief Minister of U.P. State of India as flashed by me on the f.b. on December 16,2010

How many of us are aware that the appointment of former Chief Minister of a State as Governor of another state during Pandit Jwahar Lal Nehru's refime as the Prime Minister of India heralded a new beginning in the Indian politics when spent forces in the politics were sent to hold Gubernatorial functions.? Can some one guess as who was that towering Personaity on our Indian scene?He was none else than Late Dr.Sampurnanand ,formerly Chief Minister of U.P. State of India. Yes,the appointment of former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Dr Sampurnanand as Governor of Rajasthan heralded a new beginning in the Indian politics when spent forces in the politics were sent to hold gubernatorial functions.

Dr Sampurnanand was a teacher of repute, freedom fighter and a true nationalist and politician of Uttar Pradesh, State of India who had spent many years in Prison during pre-independence era.He was a staunch follower of Mahatma Gandhi and a...lways believed in simple living and high thinking. He was elected to the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly and served as chief minister of the state from 1954 to 1960.If we consider single tenure in the office of the Chief Minister of U.P.then Dr. Sampurnanand had the longest stretch to serve U.P.State as the Chief Minister in the Post Independent era from December 28, 1954 to December 7,1960, which is almost six years in the office. Dr. Sampurnanand, a scholar of Sanskrit and Hindi, succeeded Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant. His council of ministers numbered 28 and the educationist ruled UP till Dec 7, 1960. Following a political crisis in Uttar Pradesh initiated by late Kamlapati Tripathi and C.B.Gupta, Dr Sampurnanand was asked to resign as CM and sent to Rajasthan as the Governor of Rajasthan from April 16, 1962 to April 16, 1967, he had held the seat. Dr.Sampurnanand was born on January 1,1891 at Benaras ( now called Varanasi)in U.P. In India He participated in the Non-cooperation Movement.He had edited” Maryada” a Hindi monthly manned by Pandit Madan, Mohan Malaviys in Benaras.He had contributed frequently to the National Herald and the Congress Socialist periodicals.He was elected to the All-India Congress Committee in 1922 . He was a great feedom fighter.He had sin Astronomy. He was a strong votary of traditional culture. He was deeply interested in ancient Hindu culture including Sanskrit and Astrology.After being elected to Provincial Assembly of U.P.,he had become provincial Minister for Education in the U.P. cabinet, federal Minister from 1946–1951 and from 1951–1954, holding portfolios such as education, finance, and home labour; and Chief Minister of U.P. from December 28, 1954 to December 7, 1960 and honor to serve as Governor of Rajasthan from April 16, 1962 to16 April 16, 1967. The appointment of former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Dr Sampurnanand as Governor of Rajasthan heralded a new beginning in the Indian politics when spent forces in the politics were sent to hold Gubernatorial functions .Dr.Sampurnanad was a man having towering personality with full of passion & wisdom. He was known widely for his simplicity & honesty. He had passed way on March 7,1969 leaving united Uttar Pradesh to mourn his passing away. Let us pay our respectful homage to him and pay our humble obeisance’s to his lotus feet!
