Bishwa Nath Singh:
Raj Ghat located in Delhi not far from the banks of the Yamuna River is the last resting place of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation where the cremation of Mahatma Gandhi had taken place at the Delhi Raj Ghat only, on 31st January 1...948. The memorial stone of Mahatma Gandhi placed there is a simple square platform made of black stone, with the words "Hey Ram" inscribed near it. As homage to the Mahatma, an eternal flame, in a copper urn, keeps on burning there. Enclosure of the memorial is a low wall, simple with no ornamentation. Every Friday, a remembrance ceremony takes place at the Delhi Raj Ghat National Memorial.. On Bapu’s birthday on the 2nd of October and his death anniversary on the 30th of January prayers are held at Raj Ghat, Delhi , Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated with gaiety on the 2nd of October that is public holiday in India The 30th of January, the day Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated is remembered as Martyr's Day. At 11O’cloack, the nation observe a minute silence in his honor. His memorial, is situated in a beautiful garden with fountains and numerous beautiful trees. A very close to Raj Ghat, two museums are dedicated to Gandhi Ji that house a number of possessions as well as photographs of Mahatma Gandhi. There is also a beautiful Zinat-ul Masjid –the most beautiful Mosque overlooking the Raj Ghat. That has become a place of pilgrimage for all of us and and place of tourist interest for foreigners at large.
