A respectful homage & floral tribute to Paramhansa Swami Satyananda Saraswati as paid by me and flashed on the f.b.on Dec.15,2010

Bishwa Nath Singh:

Paramhansa Swami Satyananda Saraswati was my first mentor Guru whom I had come in contact at Shiv –Bhawan at Bhagalpur where he use to visit and stay in early days of his life when he had become a saint and yoga teacher while I was a young and firry student in the year round about 1960..He was a great scholar besides being a perfect... human-being with full of passion & wisdom. He was very fond of me .Ma Yog Shakti (Mrs. Lila Shrivastava) was his ardent follower and had given her teaching job that she had at Chhapra in wake of his appeal to be whole time yoga teacher. After that Swami Ji had founded the International Yoga Fellowship in 1963 and Bihar School of Yoga" at Munger, Bihar, India in 1964.I vividly remember Niranjanand Ji ,one who succeeded him- a mere child had joined him in our presence.I recollect one incidence that at a meet one fine evening, Swami Ji had convened a meeting that was duly attended by the then District Judge of Bhagapur and other luminaries of Bhagalpur besides Late Shavitri Sahay the prominent social activist of Bhagalpur .Upen Baxi had come all the way from New Delhi to attend that meet and social gathering. To my utter surprise, Swami Ji had asked me to, preside over that meet –a great honor bestowed on me. Later on, Upen Buxi had become the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University.

He met his Guru Swami Shivananda Saraswati in 1934 in Rishikesh while he was twenty years old and adopted Sannyasa way of life on September 12,1947 on the bank of Ganges and was christened as Swami Satyanand Saraswati. He adopted the Dashnami sannyasa way of life He proved himself as an asset to his Guru who held him in great esteem. In 1955 he left his guru's ashram to live as a wandering mendicant and later founded the International Yoga Fellowship in 1963 and the Bihar School of Yoga in 1964. Over the next twenty years he toured internationally and authored over eighty books. In 1987 he founded Sivananda math, a charitable institution for rural development, and the Yoga Research foundation. In 1988 he renounced his mission, adopting Kshetra Sannayasa and left Monghyr to live in an Ashram at Rikhia near Baidyanath Dham of Deoghar in Jharkhand State as a Paramhansa Sannayasin performing higher spiritual and vedic sadhanas by going through many physical penance like a great saint.Swami Satyananda Saraswati has translated numerous volumes of Samskrta Scriptures published in India and abroad, and he is teacher respected around the world. These teachings are propagated inside India as the Bihar Yoga system and outside India as the Satyananda Yoga tradition. Over the last few years he has opened his doors for about a month each a year for festivals and satsangs. Thousands of people have traveled from throughout the world simply to hear him speak. He had left his physical body in December 2009.Many years ago round about 1994,Swami Nirajanand Ji when he had called me at Patna had told that if I happen to see my Rev. Guru at Rikhia, may not be able to recognize him with long beards ,very few clothes & fire round him. He left this worldly earth at Rikhia at midnight of December 5,2009. He was a world-renowned teacher of yogic and tantric traditions and techniques. Also known as a highly prolific author of dozens of books on Tantric techniques and teachings He was widely known as a highly prolific author of dozens of books on Tantric techniques and teachings, His contributions to the body of yogic knowledge are vast. After his passing away on December 5,2009, the students of his deemed University and followers observed a sixteen-day ritual known as shodashi puja, that l culminate on December 22,2009.In his death, the country as whole lost a glamorous saintly person who was himself a Maha yogi and universal Yoga teacher and the void created due to his absence will be very difficult to be filled in for over centuries.
